Given the releases by the National Archives this new year, has anyone changed their mind about Thatcher?

She completed Hitler's work. What's more to say?

I was thinking more of those who posted about how wonderful she was. I don't think the rest of us have changed our minds.

I was on the Notts/Derby border at the time and saw what a police state looked like. We are living with the results.

I was teaching in a town on the Nottinghamshire coal field. We didn't see so many police, of course, but it was a very interesting place to be.

(I'm struck by the attention this thread has had. And no mention, so far, of Tony Benn's death.)

The trouble is that TB has been turned into a sort of icon - the majority cross themselves and a few piggish tories spit. I knew him - very marginally - in both Bristol and Chesterfield, and was one of those persuaded by him to leave serious left politics and rejoin the Labour Party, a great mistake. When he was a real politician he was a mixed blessing, like the rest of them, and now he's become a sort of holy ghost I am confused.

I am pleased by the exposure of Thatcher's legacy in this thread.

As to Tony Benn not being mentioned here...why sully such a good man's reputation by mentioning him here? He deserves his own, honarary thread. What an inspiring man of integrity, e.g. unlike other politicians who shifted their policy once being voted in, he never sold out. Kudos to this great man!

I note that her influence remains in that may of my posts just disappear. I feel like Solzhenetsyn!

Can you clarify what you mean. I can't see that any posts of yours have been removed by us moderators. ?

Perhaps God does it. One was there in full for a while, then turned into five words, then disappeared. I blame no-one - it is probably some quality in my posts! 🙂
