Hi all,
I wondered what everybody make of Corrie's william Roach scandel?
Basically he suggested victims of abuse bring it on themselves because of sins in a past life.
Here is part of the original interview:

Here is The sun giving him a grilling:

From what I read he believe it is 'retribution' from past lives - but I don't think he meant the remarks as they have been taken. The furore is coming from people for whom past lives are a foreign concept. Personally I am open minded about the concept of past lives - but don't believe something like this would be due actions in a past life so I don't think he is right

I don't think he's right either. But I can't see that he's said anything that hasn't been said before by people on HP, or by devout Hindus.
The way that I perceive it is that we arrive here with a blank core way of being, memory and thinking aspect of consciousness and we then set about creating a life experience for ourselves, so to me everything that happens in a life experience is being created within that life experience as it unfolds within the Now.

Specialising in the intervention and treatment of many abuse cases myself I would certainly expect that people who have been victims of sexual abuse or any other abuse will be experiencing an indescribable anger as his comment. People who have been unfortunate victims of abuse experience a lot of internalised views about themselves including self blame, guilt and self anger not of their own choice but led to believe of themselves by the abuser, Bill is clearly not aware of the inconsiderate statement he has made and the wider impact this has towards people who have suffered abuse.
When Roach said, "If you accept that you are pure love, and if you know that you are pure love
these things won't happen to you." is that really any different from what is posted fairly often on HP?
And
When asked by interviewer Garth Bray if that meant "victims bring things on themselves", Roache said: "No, not quite, but and yet I am
everything that happens to us has been a result of what we have been in previous lives." is this so different from standard Hindu belief? And much of Buddhist belief? And a lot of New-Age belief?
Personally, I disagree with Roach. But I do wonder how much right we have to be not offended.
