Didn't you say this was getting tedious and repetitive and that you thought you may well have had enough of this thread now. 😀

Exactly. If you noticed, that post was not replying to a post here.
Thought I'd mention something more relevant and striking! :p

You see my get out clause there, i.e. I may well have had enough (so leaves the door open) but yeah...really reaching saturation level now and I dislike that it has descended into personal attacks. Always a low blow and disappointing.

Is your intention here, Derek to guide Amy towards living the ultimate truth?

No intention, WildStrawberry, just thinking out loud 🙂

Oh, (Cheddar and Black Midget Gems) I (Misty Meadow) see.... 🙂

...that's what happens when I think out loud (ever so slightly edited ;):D)

As for the Trade Unions. They were too powerful and were holding the country to ransom for their own ends.
They brought down two democratically elected governments and tried but failed to bring down a third. They got what they deserved.

An often quoted myth.

The irony? If they'd played ball with Mr Callaghan, Mrs Thatcher would never have been Prime Minister! Mr Callaghan was ahead in the polls before the 'winter of discontent' but destroyed electorally afterwards.

Sounds like a conspiracy theory to me 😀

😮 😮 😮 WOW!! So much worse than I thought. Thanks for posting this and for John Pilger for exposing the dastardly underbelly of her politics. I wonder how many here, who support her, will actually read the whole article. I can just predict the replies now, e.g. she did not work alone....er (cough) "the lady is not for turning". (Not called the Iron Lady for nothing). 'Nuff said! 😉

It's no myth! Three Day Week, Winter Of Discontent and they were out to bring the Thatcher government down. And the blood sports lobby, under the guise of the fuel protest, sought to bring down the Blair government.

Democracy, not mob rule.

I read the whole article. I also had a wander round the rest of the site. Labour complicit in hundreds of thousands of deaths in Iraq, East Timor etc.apparently.

That would be new 'labour' then - Blair who Thatcher is so pleased with. (Mentioned in the final paragraph of that article, if you digested that info).

So what are your thoughts about the article? Rather than evasion or comparison, I would be interested to learn what you truly think of her having read that (if it is possible just to refer to the article).

Does she still come up smelling of roses to you? Any chance of a reappraisal?

I have reappraised her - I thought she was pretty awful...now, I find she was so much worse than I imagined. :046:

And boo to them as well, why be partsian about it, a lot of politicians are scumbags regardless of the livery. Left or right, black and white, binge and diet, manic and depression. All extremes!!

This is the way I see it: we are controlled by a power elite behind the scenes. Politicial parties receive their orders from them, play their games with the illusion of democracy. Like I said previously the anger vented at Thatcher is a form of frustration in the inequalities of the systems we live with. I think the day that Blair dies, it would be different, quietly swipt away. He is already damaged goods - a liar and a war criminal!!

Before I made a judgement I would ascertain if these things are actually true.
I would want to hear the other side.
I would seek to know and understand the motives and intentions behind the actions, if they were true.

If you mean would I join you in bad mouthing? No. No I wouldn't. You don't get it do you.

Well, what did I expect? No opinion just a cop-out or shrewdly formulated get-out clause whereby you will never have to give an answer. Hmmm - very revealing.

John Pilger's credentials are sound - he has received human rights and journalism awards but I guess that doesn't interest you since it would cause you to take his article seriously.

No, I didn't expect you to bad mouth her but I was rather (stupidly) hoping that you might be more honest in your appraisal of her. More fool me.....ah well.

I’m sorry it’s taken a while to get back – I was out all day yesterday.

I seem to have pushed buttons with this comment. But you do know, don’t you, that “Winter of Discontent” is not real life, it’s a tabloid headline. The popular press built up a mountain out of this particular molehill. There was no monolithic “Union Power” – industrial action was initiated by rank and file workers who were coping with pay restraint policies. Wages in real terms had dropped by 13%. Then, as now, as always, the Union action came from the members. A Union is just that – a union of its members. And governments were not “brought down” by anyone – they failed to persuade the voters at the polling booth.
Most of the “facts” about this time are wrong. Here’s one: people can get very upset about the callous “gravediggers’ strike”. This was two separate actions, one in Tameside and one in Liverpool. They were both unofficial actions and lasted just two weeks.
Of course, those of us who were alive at the time “remember” chaos. But what we actually remember was the chaos reported in the popular press. And in case anyone still (post-Leveson) thinks the popular press can be trusted, here is a quotaion from Derek Jameson, who was a leading Fleet Street editor at the time,
“We pulled every dirty trick in the book; we made it look like it was general, universal and eternal, when it was in reality scattered, here and there, and no great problem.”

As for democracy – ‘government of the people, by the people, for the people’ – I find your belief that this is what we have touching.
