The police cover up finally exposed! Shameful and atrocious that the fans were blamed.
I hope that those who were responsible for such gross negligence and manslaughter of the 96 deaths, on that day, are now finally held to account.

The police were totally to blame for most of those deaths. It may have been an unfortunate mistake to allow those extra fans to enter the ground but the police response to the worsening situation was blatantly irresponsible. They were in charge of safety and they were far too late in pulling down the fences to ease the build up of pressure in the terraces and letting the fans overflow onto the pitch. It is irrelevant whether the fans were drunk or not. It was the fixed fences that was the root cause of the tragedy.

In any case, evidence shows that they weren't drunk. The Guardian ran this, this morning. Well worth reading.

I agree totally that fixed fences showed a complete disregard for fans' safety in the first place. We had already had the Bradford fire. I couldn't have been the only person to have thought, when the fences were first erected, what happens next time? And crushes had already happened twice (at least) before at Hillsborough, before the fences were put up.

I was teaching just outside Nottingham at the time – Liverpool were, of course, playing Notts Forest – and I remember giving over the morning’s lesson to letting teenage boys who had witnessed the whole thing from the other end and who had had bodies laid out in front of them, talk it though. It was the best I could do, but probably didn’t help much.

Can we now, please, look forward to an investigation into Orgreave?
