The forms help but a good stretching program or exercises should be incorprated as it is usually with most physical exercise.
RE: Flexibility
Absolutely. I start off my session with 15 minutes of standing stretching, which helps my students with their balance so they can perform the more "awkward" moves in the form better.
RE: Flexibility
i usea modified 5 elements stretching programme, with postures suitable for those who are attending, i.e. sometimes i have people who find getting down to the floor difficult, so i avoid this aspect; all the stretching and movement we do is aimed primarily at energy flow harmony, so things such as wriggling the fingers & thumbsare important.
RE: Flexibility
we often do at least 1/2 hour of chi kung warm ups at the beginning of Tai Chi class which include stretching and tendon excerisizes to get the chi flowing and the kinks of the day out...

hey jamee, i see your in BOSTON... wow, i went to RI in 2002 and thought it was a wonderful place; never quite made it to Boston, though, but i am thinking about it for next year if i can save enough money. I know its MOSTLYfilmed in a studio but the title scenes shown in BOSTON LEGAL TV series look fAb...;)
RE: Flexibility
Hi Soyoukan,
Yes, Boston is one of those cities that sits at the Atlantic Ocean AND had a wonderful River that runs along side of it - the Charles River. I think the tv show Boston Legal, which I also enjoy - watching alias Captain Kirk - I think alot of those scenes overlook the Charles - the scenes where they sit on their office balcony smoking cigars - yuk . But the view is wonderful indeed.
There are many martial Arts schools here so plenty of variety. If you ever come to Boston we'll take you to some wonderful resteraunts and go to where early risers start their day with some Chi Kung or Tai Chi on the Commons if you like. Not that I join them on a regular basis, I do not. But there are many places to get into the flow of nature even in the city.
