Hi everyone.
I've been wanting to do reiki for 3 years but the time has never been right. Now I'm feeling a strong push in that direction again and wondered if you could tell me what questions I should be asking a reiki master before deciding whether to go with them or not . What things do i need to know ?

Any suggestions would be appreciated .

Thanks

Tracy x

Hi Tracy,

I had the same dilemma there were many teachers to choose from - I didn't ask questions but followed my intuition to the person I was most drawn to and I wasn't disappointed.

Hi Tracey,

I would probably enquire firstly which branch or style of Reiki the teacher offers training in: there are many different varieties these days. Once you've found someone who teaches a branch which feels like the right one for you, it might be a good idea for you to ask some basic questions like how long have they been teaching, and what, if any, professional organisations are they a member of.

It might be a good idea to book in a for a treatment with your potential teacher before commiting to a course; that's a good opportunity to get to know them a bit, and you'll probably have a good idea after the session whether you've found the right teacher or not.

And do trust your intuition, it'll probably lead you to right where you need to be.

Good luck!

Allison xx

Likewise, I would speak to several Reiki Masters and see who feels right for you.

Ask whay style of Reiki they do, i.e. is it Western Reiki, Jikiden Reiki, Celtic Reiki, Dolphin Reiki, Rainbow Reiki etc. etc. (the list goes on... ;)) and do a little research yourself into the different types to find what suits you best.

It's definitely a good idea to go for a treatment with the master first and, if they know you are a potential candidate for being student, they may give the treatment at reduced cost or even free. This also gives you the opportunity to talk to them face to face about any issues or concerns you have.

Other important things you can check are what 'after course' support is provided, how long they've been doing Reiki as a practitioner and master, how many other students they have trained, what is their reiki lineage.

I'd definately agree with what Giles said about post-course support: any reputable teacher should certainly be offering this. Reiki is very much a life-long journey, what you'll learn on a weekend course is really just a starting point, a beginning. The real learning occurs as your practice develops over time, and it is helpful to have ongoing support from your teacher throughout this process.

Hi Tracy

I think it is good idea to ask teacher master about his/ her reiki lineage refers to Dr Usui, so you know wher is your teacher lineage come from and what reiki you will learn.

Kind regards,

I would go with your intuition, but do go for a treatment first as this would give you a good idea if your intuition is on course.

Thankyou all for your guidance.

I have found a reiki master ( well she found me ) She only lives 2 mins along the road so she is on hand for any support I may need and she runs regular reiki classes and work shops. We have had the opportunity of working together offering our therapies through pamper evenings for our local community and I have attended one of her angel card workshops, so I have getting to know her a little.

One concern I have is there doesnt seem to be any mention of receiving symbols or attunments on reiki 1 although you receive them on reiki 2 . Is this standard procedure? ( I may have that wrong as I'm trying to remember what her e mail said.)

Thanks for your replies

With Reiki I it is usual for you to receive a number of attunements (this can be anything from about 1 to 4 attunements; typically 4) and you are shown how to give reiki treatements to yourself and others as well as being given the background to reiki and hopefully the opportunity to practice on others also attending the class.

Symbols are not usually given until Reiki II where you will also receive a couple more attunements and be given information about practicing on the public, getting insurance etc. and, again, practicing your reiki and your new symbols on the other participants.

If you're unsure of the exact content, just ask the Reiki master who's running the course. 😉
