Reiki is a healing modality which utilises universal life energy - 'Reiki'. It is a safe, gentle, non-invasive form of hands-on healing that increases energy, reduces pain, produces deep relaxation and a general feeling of well-being.
Reiki is a completely natural and perfectly safe system of healing which can never do harm as the receiver is taking what is required. The energy knows where to go and what to do once it gets there. The healer is not forcing it.
Reiki is a connection between you and the Universal Light or Life Energy. Whether you wish to call that light God, or your Higher Self, or The Great Spirit or simply the pulse and rhythm of nature, doesn’t matter. The point is that you will be more connected than ever before and the energy will enhance your vision and create more balance within you.
It is also the same energy known to many ancient civilizations, by many names, including Ch'i (Chinese), Prana (Hindu and Yoga), Fluid of Life (Alchemists).
Although this energy is present everywhere, imbalances can and do occur. When they occur in the human body the results may include stress, inability to concentrate, depression and physical disease. In short, areas become dis-eased and imbalanced. Reiki heals by moving through our personal energy fields and charging them with positive energy. In doing so, it raises the vibratory level of our energy and causes the negative thoughts and feelings to break away. Reiki clears, heals and straightens the energy pathways, correcting dis-ease and imbalances. The physical body's natural healing processes are encouraged to function and are increased in effectiveness. Energy is therefore allowed to again flow through the body in a healthy and natural way.

Can anyone practice Reiki or do you have to have a feel for healing?

Generally speaking, you dont choose Reiki, Reiki chooses you!

Any one can practice Reiki, it is the attunement process that connects, or more precisley re-connects the student to the source of the energy. If this is done correctly, the student will be able to channel energy for healing purposes.

The energy knows where to go and what to do once it gets there.

This is an over-simplification of the process by which Reiki or any other EMF therapy works, and is quite misleading. The cells that are damaged will be stimulated to repair if they receive the appropriate signal. This signal can be applied through a conscious action on the part of the practitioner or it can happen if the practitioner channels the correct frequency by 'chance'. Obviously it is more likely to happen if the practitioner chooses to apply the correct frequency. What has been found in studies is that healthy cells will not respond to EMF within the healing range, although some EMF can cause cell damage.

Reiki will heal whatever you are ready for it to. Remember it is your body intellegence which has control over how it uses the energy, not your mind nor the practitioner.

This is not strictly speaking true. The body's cells respond to signals or messages. Once the cell recieives the message to initiate a healing cascade, it will start to heal.

The mind is a powerful tool in the healing process and can promote healing through the release of certain hormones and chemicals, and the mind can release chemicals and hormones that damage the body too. The power of the mind should always be added to any healing process.

I can honestly say when Reiki found me four years ago I had no feel for healing but from the first attunement I knew I was going to use it forever. I am now a Reiki Master and work full time as a holistic therapist. Changed my life! I teach reiki now and have never had any student who couldn't run the energy after being attuned.

If it is calling you go for it!!!!

How would I know if it was "calling me". How would I know. Think I'm better off seeing someone as opposed to healing myself.

Anyone know of any good practitioners in Teesside? If so please send me a PM or email.

Well you've come across Reiki so that's a start. You will find a course pops up that you can attend - that's what I've noticed over the years.

I wonder what you mean by "as opposed to healing myself"? The most important thing you can so after being attuned to Reiki is self-healing!

Chris is right. It took me about three years from reading an article about Reiki to actually doing a course but it kept appearing in various ways throughout that time. Eventually there was a course at just the right time.

I agree completely with the comment about self-healing being the most important thing you can do after attunement to Reiki. This is the key to Reiki (and a lot of other healing). Why would you give your power away by wanting someone else to heal you when you could have the tools to work on yourself at any given moment of every day and thus completely change your life?

I am very well tuned into my own body but I'm still not sure I would have the skills to do Reiki myself. I don't understand when somebody earlier said they didn't find Reiki - Reiki found them - can someone explain this please?

Hi Janet

Let me tell you my Reiki master's philosophy of Reiki: it is that you don't "do" Reiki. There are no skills involved. Instead you "are" Reiki, and certainly at Masters level that is the case. "Be"ing Reiki instead of "do"ing Reiki.

Now some people, myself included, are what I call spiritual healers, which means that they have always had the ability to heal. However, I choose to heal using Reiki because I know I am using something which can only do good.

The website I use a lot is www.light-reiki.co.uk, which has plenty of explanatory articles on it. Why don't you attend a Level 1 course? Then you can decide for yourself whether you want to be attuned to Reiki.

I'm sorry about this rather long reply, but I'd like to share my Reiki story with you, about how Reiki found me.

Reiki found me, although through the worse way imaginable - a Reiki master fell in love with me and consequently I fell for him. We've had to try to ignore our feelings for each other as we both have partners, and we have both been through hell trying to get ourselves through it, as we keep on meeting up even though we don't plan to. I didn't even realise he was a Reiki master until I tried to book a Reiki taster session at work (having met him at work in another capacity) and he phoned me to say he wouldn't do it as he would find it too intimate for him to cope with - he cannot stand being near me as he just can't cope with his feelings for me.

I've had a natural ability for healing all my life, although I'd only used it on myself as I just did not understand what I could do, so I kept it quiet from everyone - my mother and grandfather have told me (when I told them I'd been attuned to Reiki in November 2007) that I've always had very hot hands ever since I was a toddler! I looked on the internet about Reiki when my 'friend' cancelled my taster session, and realised that it had found me. I found my two Reiki Masters, and was attuned within 3 weeks of finding out about Reiki - it all happened so quickly.

I've been to hell and back with both a healing crisis (toxins coming out through my skin, even now after almost 3 months) and with an emotional crisis due to what has been going on for me over the past 8 months with my 'friend'. However, I insist that being attuned to Reiki has been the best thing that could have ever happened to me - I would have not been as able to cope with the love I have for my 'friend' without Reiki. I would have probably had a nervous breakdown, but instead I just get upset when I see him or think about him, and then after self-healing with Reiki, I calm down eventually.

I am so certain that I've had to go through what can only be described as a life-changing event so that I could use Reiki for the greater good of myself, my family and my friends. I've even treated a stranger I've met on a course last week who had never heard of Reiki - she couldn't believe how her knee improved after just 15 minutes of Reiki (I was having to self-treat because the Reiki Master I've told you about was taking the course - neither of us were too happy about having to spend the day with each other as we get too intense around each other!). I intend now to set up my own Reiki business and am going to study counselling/EFT/NLP/CBT as well, once I finish my History honours degree in 2 years time (I hate accounting which I've been in for years!), so my life has been totally changed - if someone had told me this time last year, how my life would be now and what my plans would be, I would have laughed and said how completely stupid it was, that nothing like that would ever happen to me. But it has, and I'm grateful for it.

When my grandmother passed away last year, I actually looked out of my bedroom window that night and asked the sky what my purpose in life was ... exactly 2 months to the day later, I'd met my Reiki Master 'friend'. I've also had an experience which my 'friend' has put down to my angel being present (he also is a Seichim Master, and practically ordered me to buy Doreen Virtue books when I inadvertently met him in a bookshop and told him what had happened to me). There have been so many 'synchronicities' (as my Masters say) and good things that have happened to me since my attunement - my life despite my passion for my 'friend' has changed completely for the better - I got promoted at work 2 months ago; I got my first 1st-class essay at university last month; my husband has completely changed his attitude towards me; people who I didn't get on with are changing their attitudes towards me.... All this after 5 years of nothing but bad things happening to me.

For those people who are intrigued by Reiki but who are reluctant to try, I say please, do some research about it, but know that if it's the right thing for you, Reiki will come to you and will change your life for the better.

I think the simplest way of explaining this is...

Most people are unaware of what Reiki is, but something happens that suddenly brings an awareness of Reiki into their life. From that awareness we find that Reiki is all around us and we can't help bumping into people who do Reiki or courses being offered to teach us. We generally don't have to go looking for Reiki we just find that circumstances lead us to do it.

Love and Reiki Hugs

Of course I have to agree with energylz, as I believe that there are many things that are put in our way as we walk the path to enlightenment.

Completely agree with Energlz. Its usually this way with Reiki, it will keep appearing around you until you take notice, that's how it finds you!
