Curious about what others focus on when self-treating / doing reiki.
Am aware that people experience reiki in different ways; my RMT tells me that she has out of body experiences etc and feels the presence of her animal guides. I experience reiki in a different ways. When self-treating, I try to visualise the flow of reiki in and around me; cleansing me; sometimes its rainbows of colours etc. but this is something that I have to do for myself, rather than it just happening to me (if that makes sense) . I find this easier when self-treating as I can lie back and close my eyes and visualise.
Find it a bit more difficult to stay focused when giving reiki to my partner (and plants!). Try to focus by 'noticing' things such about what's being reiki'd! so if its the plants, I try to notice how green the leaves are, or what the textures like or something like that . I also focus by 'noticing' what my hands are exeriencing.
However, sometimes, I can lose my concentration (especially after a stressful day at work!!) - at the moment I think I'd struggle to stay focused and self-treat for anything more than 10-15 minutes
Am interested in hearing how others do it
hi Dominoes
What a good question!
Sometimes I find myself wondering what I'm going to have for my tea. That's usually when my client tells me she has had an amazing experience! That could be because mentally I'm getting out of the way of the Reiki so that it can flow unhindered.
Other times I get a guide telling me things. Last time this happened my guide pointed out her back to me, how it was not straight. When I asked about this, she told me she had had two vertebrae fused - at the point of the bend I'd noticed.
Or I might notice something like cigarette smoke which I need to brush or blow out of the way.
Or my hands start doing things with me watching them.
I had a client last week, and I had to pull something out of her front, a bit like pulling on a fishing rod or a worm. When she turned over, I had to pull something out of her back. My guide told me later her chakras had had to be pulled back into alignment, and when I told her that, she told me she had had a car crash 4 years ago, when she was hit from the side, and everything was pushed to one side. Since then, her physical injuries had healed perfectly but she was still in pain. Until I did the pulling...
I don't find it useful to concentrate, meditate or "zone out". I'm usually watching what's going on or doing what I've been told by my guides.
But sometimes I just count from 1 to 100 or 1 to 60...
Hello,
That all sounds amazing.
I havent done reiki as yet, im waiting for the right time i dont think it will be long now:)
Love and sunshine

ChrisRams - interested to read about mentally getting out of the way of reiki - I think I was always as bit worried that if I stop thinking about it, it will stop flowing.
Still lots for me to learn ... :dft009:
Hi Dom
If you're worried about whether you will know if it stops flowing or not, you will. Sometimes my hand just lifts up and I know it's time to move or stop! The more you do, the more experience you gain of Reiki and the more you learn. Keep at it!
Thanks for your replies

Yes, I felt as though I was shortchanging people if I was thinking about something else which popped into my head while I was giving Reiki.
It's good to know that other people do the same *smile*
When I first started with reiki, I would cheerfully think about shopping lists or what to have for tea, then I realised that to do so was not only taking my focus from what I was doing, but was also disrespectful to myself, the energy and the patient.
Pretty soon I managed to stay in touch with the energy flow and what was happening (or not) around the patient and now I regard the whole process as a standing meditation (I prefer to stand) and just flow along with the energy.

Hi Moonfeather,
I certainly don't think I'm being disrespectful to anyone when I'm giving Reiki. If the Reiki wants to flow somewhere the least I can do is get out of the way and let it!
I used to be quite concerned about my "lack of focus", until I realised that some of my thoughts were, in fact, messages intended for my client. I agree with "going with the flow", but I don't mind if the "flow" includes my mind wandering where it will. I don't push it or force it as this seems to me to be counter-productive. It's not respectful to Reiki to impose one's will on it.
Chris, I think you read me wrong. I meant I felt it was disrespectful not to be fully 'there' for the healing process, whether that means the mind drifts or the intuition requires attention to the body. I don't push or force in any way, which is why I sometimes regard giving healing as a form of meditation, with any focus being on the reiki energy and where/how it manifests.
Moonfeather
Moonfeather,
I'm definitely "there" for the healing process. What I'm not doing is consciously thinking about the Reiki. I did feel you were criticising me and to an extent I still do. The results I get confirm to me that what I am doing is right, whether that means thinking about my shopping list or watching my hands apparently move of their own free will!
I don't tune out, nor do I concentrate on a mantra. I'm still totally aware. I usually have my eyes open. I find that in that situation I am available for the powers that be to make use of my presence to suit the highest good. I'd say that my state of consciousness is no different to what it is now I'm typing. I see no reason to change what I do.
Chris, I am puzzled as to why you should feel I am criticising you in particular, when my original post was a general response to the whole thread, from the way I was seeing it at the time. In no way do I suggest you change the way you do anything and in actual fact, the way you work is the same as me! 🙂
It might be worth pondering your reaction to my post and its reasons... or not, as the case may be... the choice is yours. In any case, this is getting off topic for the thread.

That's an interesting concept, thanks for the thought.
I suppose it's all about focus, and where you (a general you, not anyone in particular) personally think you should be mentally at the time that you give the Reiki.
Moonfeather - It was obviously a challenge to you to not think about other things, sometimes we need those personal challenges (which might not be the right thing for everyone) to help us along our path.
