usui or tera mai

Hi,

I am not really sure of the difference myself.. and I am currently studying Tera Mai Reiki level II! A book I found helpful in explaining Reiki was 'Reiki for Life' by Penelope Quest.
She explains that in the 1990's some Reiki Masters began to use other symbols in their practice/teaching. Some of these were chanelled, others seemingly came from Tibet. Quest states that these symbols have very different energetic vibrations and are not part of the original healing system initiated by Dr Usui.

On a personal level I received a number of reiki healing sessions from the Master I'm currently studying with. I had been suffering from a very severe form of post viral fatigue (confined to bed 18-20 hours a day, unable to perform the simplest of tasks without suffering extreme muscle fatigue etc) and even after just 2 sessions my energy levels improved dramatically, so much so that 4 months on I have returned to some semblance of a normal life.

I was so impressed that I decided to enroll in this master's Reiki Class - my main aim being to learn how to treat myself. I was unaware until I completed Reiki Level 1 that it was Tera Mai Reiki. I was a little perturbed about this and I did some research on the internet, in books etc. Not any clearer still.

However I take the attitude that the Reiki,whatever 'type' it might be came into my life at the right time and for the right reason. (Quest also sates in her book that there are more than 30 types of Reiki being practised in the west and that we are more obsessed here with symbols and trade marks than in Japan - which I would well believe!!)

All I can say is do some research, keep asking questions and in the end follow your intuition - which ever course you are drawn to is the right one for you.

At the end of the day my belief is that it is all Healing Energy and that's what counts.

I did both Usui Reiki & Tera Mai Reiki/Seichem to level 2 before doing level 3. To be honest I couldn't tell much difference. To me healing is healing. Anycase I decided to do the Reiki masters with my original Usui Reiki teacher simply because it is more simple. Tera Mai is full of extra symbols, attunements and philosophy that didn't float my boat.

During this period I was involved in a Reiki exchange group, and we all were different levels and from different lineages. We couldn't tell the which reiki was what. The main thing I noticed that each individual had their own way of doing Reiki at different levels of the energy body.

I think the most important aspect of Reiki training is to find a teacher you feel resonant with. Don't worry about the type of Reiki, it's all about healing yourself and others. Don't let any numpty tell you that one is better than the other. It's all the matter of personal taste - some like chocolate ice cream, and others wild berry sorbet!

Well I have booked a tera mai course or the 5th April, when I originally booked they had no spaces left, so I was looking into altenatives, 2 days later I got a call saying they had a cancellation, did I still want a place! So I think this was meant to be.
I have no experience of reiki till I asked for help here a couple of weeks ago and alreasy thing seem to be turning around, So I am exited and enthralled to be learning something so new to me.
One other thing I was wondering , I I do tera mai level 1 could I do an alternative (like usui) level2? Is it best to stick with the same Reiki master for all your training?

Thing is if you did tera mai level 1, but wanted usui 2, you would then have to do usui 1 first. But there is nothing stopping you from doing both, then creating your own method of healing using what resonates from the two systems. When I work healings the client gets an intuitive mix of Usui, Ascension and Kundalini reiki from me, depending on what I am guided to use and how.

personally i would not use this sytstem you cant mix and match USUI REIKI AND TERA this is on there tera website kathleen milner YOU EITHER AFTER CHOSE USUI OR TERA thats ther guidelines, i was attuned two level two, then i was told that if i wanted to do masters i would have to be de attuned from my usui reiki, so i did not carry on with the mastership in this system- i would not be hold from someone telling me what systems i cant have if i wanted to go with teram i would not able to use any other system- ENERGY IS ENERGY!!
