Tantric Reiki..??

Thoughts?

To me they're just buzz words. It seems to me that Reiki has this history of people attaching words to it so they can sell, control, copyright or trademark something.

I long for the day when I see the practice of Reiki as Reiki with nothing added and nothing taken away.

No! We teach as traditional a form of Usui Reiki as we can based on our research and understanding of Usui Reiki Ryoho - we explain to potential students exactly what we teach i.e. Usui Reiki with no Western add-ons and people are really interested in the Japanese methods. I think there are many people that would prefer to learn the original methods given the choice. Usui Reiki Ryoho, like all Japanese arts is simple, elegant and effective - but requires commitment and practice to perfect.

I saw a Reiki website where the owner was a great grand master attuned to over 1000 lineages of Reiki! I have seen websites selling things like bear Reiki, tiger Reiki, excaliber Reiki, unicorn Reiki, even sex Reiki and money Reiki. Call me old-fashioned and set in my ways, but I think I'll stick to plain Usui Reiki in its traditional form!

Drumming Reiki or Reiki Drumming come to mind. Although I happen to do both, I haven't branded it 😉

It all depends on what meaning is being given to the word 'Tantra'...

While in the West, folks commonly associate 'Tantra' with sexual practices, I feel it is important to remember that Tantra does not necessarily include any form of sexual practice - actual or symbolic. This is the case in many schools of Tantric Buddhism (also known as Vajrayana Buddhism)

In Japan, for instance, the two most famous schools of Vajrayana/Tantric Buddhism are the Shingon shu and the Tendai shu - and depending on which self-proclaimed authority you listen to, Usui-sensei is said to have been a follower of/heavily influenced by, one or other of these 'tantric' traditions...

you can use reiki for anything so therefore sex yes! but just plain reiki will do!

Thanks to unscrupulous people tagging any old "eastern" sounding name onto a therapy the alternative/complementary therapy industry are always going to struggle for credibility and will always have a sleazy image with the unenlightened. Sad really and when I'm having a bad day I feel rather disillusioned.

Rlei_ki: i realise that 'Tantra' is not only about sex (in both Buddhism and Hinduism), although, admittedly, I don't know that much about it 😉
I have heard the theories that Usui-sensei was a follower/influenced by Tendai Buddhism, which follows Tantric teachings. My whole problem with the whole Reiki-Tantra association is if you do an internet search on it ..and the things that come up. It seems that 90% of it is based on some kind of glorified 'spiritual' prostitution...which i find really strange. I wasn't aware of this, so when i first came across it, i was really surprised, and a little shocked.

Amethystfairy: you say that you can use Reiki for sex, do you mean for personal use 😉 or with clients? The problem that i have is when people use it on paying clients...
but... say you use it with your partner...i don't know, i'm just interested in that aspect of it. For instance, if your partner was maybe a little inhibited or self-conscious, how would you use Reiki to deal with that? Would you focus on the sacral chakra, or would you do something else? Just curious:)
I've also read that 'Reiki has no place with sex'...but i'm not sure what to make of that.

was being general about it i think use it for fun extra no not clients that would be unprofessional!! maybe experiment with it its rather private thing to discuss ha! so as reiki does no harm try it out where ever you like and see what happens, yes was meaning it for personal use! to improve clients sex lives maybe reiki root chakra to improve their sex lives?

hehe, sorry maybe that was a little personal, was just curious 😉 I'm still quite new to Reiki...so i have a million different questions coming up all the time. i was just wondering as my partner is quite inhibited and self-conscience sometimes...i guess a general Reiki healing would naturally help, focusing on the root, or sacral, as sexual body is so closely linked to the emotional/spiritual body....thanks for sharing though 🙂

Well, my boyfriend had quite an interesting sexual experience with me just after I had been attuned to reiki... it was not intentional or anything it just 'switched on'... not going to share the details, but he was quite impressed!! :))

I did an exchange of tantric massage for reiki by a reiki therapist. I had never had reiki before, but heard a lot about it, so was keen to experience it.

From my experience the two are totally different. A good tantra massage is a very thorough, sensuous full body massage that uses hands, feet, elbows, knees; it manipulates the joints, muscles, stretches the meridians, works on the bodies energy pathways. The focus is within, the process uses tantric rituals, breath, sound and natural desire to relax the body, drop the mind, stimulate, arouse & direct the flow kundalini/shakti energy so as to "ride the waves" of ecstatic bliss.

Reiki, in contrast, seems to be a non tactile, non physical thing that focusses on external energy. Sensuality, pleasure does not seem to be a part of it - so the two are totally different.

However, I would imagine that the two could be combined - reiki attunement can be used to get the mind out of the way, so that the receiver can go deeper into the tantric massage experience.
