I wonder if this has happened to anyone else, or if anyone can shed any light on this for me. . .
I recently received my Reiki I attunement and around that time I had a dream about something bad happening to a member of my family. I don't usually remember my dreams, but this one was particularly vivid. I have since found out that the thing that I dreamt of did actually happen a week prior to me receiving my Reiki attunement. Is this just coincidence or something to do with the Reiki as I've never had anything like this happen to me before and it did freak me out a bit when I found out.

Yes Reiki does have this effect on people, of awakening their spiritual senses. It's nothing to worry about, certainly nothing spooky. Carry on with the self healing and enjoy the Reiki!
