But reading here about free on line master certification and masters that don't do healings? I wonder if the spirit guides are laughing or crying?
To be a "Reiki master/teacher in Usui tradition" means very little any more. If it took me 3 years of study and some one can get it free on the Internet? It HAS become so watered down that it is hardly recognizable.
I'm beginning to believe that energy healing/psychic healing will become without tradition and will only be recognized by the results. Reiki might lose all respectability and something different (and maybe without a name or symbols) will rise up in the evolution that is taking place around us. The evolution will still take place but look different than we expected it to.
And then again...I might be wrong.

Well it still does mean something in some circle. The UK Reiki Federation lays down stringent guidelines for the experience necessary to advance to level 3 - and it includes more than 70 treatments........
Personally I don't give a monkeys (whatever) about the master title. It's up to clients and students to consider if a practitioner is the master of.....(whatever).
Considering that much information now has come out of Japan questioning the so-called tradition that had developed in the west with the Usui title, do we really know what the tradition was in the first place??

That may be so!! The problem with "tradition" is that if we are not too careful, it becomes "the past betraying the present" to use an interesting definition 😉 Too much tradition can lose the essence of any healing modality - whether it's Reiki or something else.
Reiki has been an important part of my practitioner development, but it's in my personality to take something and do my own spin on it. It says Reiki on my insurance policy, so that's what offically I do even though I have explored other healing modalities and intermingled these techniques. As long as we are true to our essence (or if you like inner nature, for want of a better word), it doesn't matter what title/label we use. The problem is when the ego kicks in and distorts. But having said that, I feel Reiki is far more robust than all of us put together :p

Is the tradition accurate? Are some blinded by the implied history of Reiki?
Now ok i know i am outside the box but its nothing new for me, some even claim i am insightful!
I taught Reiki and loved it, BUT if i said to you that from the moment i began to teach Reiki it was not taught by me but through me. Now understand i had no prior knowledge or understanding of what that might mean it simply happened. Now years later i can say that through me was not accurate i simply became an entirely different avenue for both words and energy
Everything flowed as natural as breathing, yeah its time for a BUT!
When it got round to the attunements etc everything changed and i could feel it although i had no understanding of why. So I carried out the attunements and then guess what the natural flow returned with questions being answered etc from the the moment i finished.
Question if as some say Reiki is a spiritually guided energy (universal life force energy is pretty close right) Years later i can ask WHY did Spirit and i do mean the very highest levels not carry out the attunements??
I wonder if i said that i was later shown that i need play no part in any attunement what would you think?
Was the control i exerted by carrying out the attunement process having the effect that the student got less than he might have been using a different way?
Years later i understood what was happening.
So now why all the years of study, the simplicity of Reiki means a stronger connection between you and Spirit, self healing means YOU grow inside. Are you a healer? Time will tell not the next course or attunement. You will never find the answers in books but by trusting yourself
I wonder how many people are so engrossed in the system of Reiki that they forget that healing is not about what you do or know but it is about the person who comes to you.
Usui turned healing on its head, and tried to share that " here is the energy you need first, use it and you will find the answers that will help you on YOUR journey.
Use the energy and you WILL find the answers. Did he need attunements or was his presence enough to lift people to a place where they too could begin a very personal journey?
Very many years ago i took one of Usu'is pictures and had the Reiki symbol placed in the bottom left corner and you know what i knew he was unhappy with that, wonder why?
So i wonder what am i really saying....mmm... dont be so wrapped up in what Reiki is suppose to be that you become blind to a far wider view.
So again i wonder will it be the usual canned answers...mmm =)

I think there are two aspects to healing that need to be taught. One is the modality. In the case of reiki how to channel and apply the energy. Frankly once I stopped worrying what I was doing and just stood back and let reiki do what was needed it all became so much easier!
The other part is the ethics of how to deal with patients, legal aspects, confidentiality. I feel BOTH are needed to be a 'master' in any modality.
I recognise that others have a much greater natural ability than I do to 'heal' But a 'natural' healer still needs the understanding of the mundane side of the work .

I read somewhere a few weeks ago; that God, the source, the universe, doesn't need us to heal anyone?
He/she could do it without us.
It is for our highest good, that we access the healing source for our growth and progression. That we become like Gods filled with compassion and love beyond our own personal needs and wants.
So wether its Reiki, or any of the other healing modalities, or you study them all and create a style of healing that works with you and the approval of the source? We are on the path.
I think it was my ego that was injured, thinking that others would tarnish the image of energy healing with these Internet certifications (which kinda made me crazy when I read it).

I mentioned earlier in another post that Reiki & Reiki Jin Kei Do for me was an awakening to myself. A sense of a journey of personal discovery.
I came to an awareness that the hands on healing side of Reiki was a sort of side effect, a sort of a perk of the Reiki journey so to speak and never really felt from the very first attunement the giving of healing was the reason for Reiki, yet I felt of sense of self healing played a part.
Since I first had my level 1 attunement years ago it now seems today Reiki is everywhere, so many different names, new hand positions emerging, new energy labels etc to a point where today it isnt difficult to find free attunements like being offered as an everyday breakfast cereal.
This does question the respect Reiki has today within society, especially new comers to Reiki. After becoming Reiki Master/Teacher I became drawn to Reiki Jin Kei Do, becoming Reiki Jin Kei Do master/teacher. Jin Kei Do felt so much more powerful with a sense of respect hard to describe.
As far as I am aware the Reiki Jin Kei Do symbols have continued to be honoured by the Jin Kei Do masters and have not been released for public view. Where once Reiki had a reputation to keep the symbols sacred now widely available.
Today I am a Psychotherapist specialising in different fields, I now feel a sense of settlement and which I truly believe Reiki has played a part in some way,leading through a journey of personal development and to continue to learn a life of wisdom and compassion in order to help and give back to others in need. On occasions I have felt the reiki energy becoming involved. Reiki in some I believe way will walk at my side for life affecting others I meet in other ways.
Today I dont really get involved with Reiki, more now living a life through Reiki. Maybe Reiki has done its job and led to me to where I am today! Maybe it is for everyone that being introduced to Reiki is an unconscious journey leading one to their purpose in life?. With self healing helping to release the blocks currently restricting our journey to our purposes.
Thinking at this point in relation to Reiki losing its respect and being watered down. Looking back I would tend now to believe that Reiki is for one to have an attunment in order to help them on their journey. At some point down the line after the internal Reiki energy flow of self healing has worked on that person, Reiki then begins to freely flow from that person to others in the ways of a compassionate,caring and loving behaviour.
In my view the recognition of a master/teacher label is just that. A label. Becoming to hung up on the master/teacher label takes away why we found Reiki in the first place and the plans Reiki had for each of us for our lives.
Of course this is my view over a time being with Reiki.

I would think that you were starting to understand that your everyday thinking aspect of consciousness is not capable of creating healing or helping others to be able to learn how to heal. 🙂

The ritual that people go through is not the attunement, the attunement requires no ritual, all that is required is for you to have the attunement to the modality that you wish to share with others and a willingness to pass it on. 😉

I would perceive this differently, some people require years or even a life time to personally develop themselves, that is not the same as studying, Usui's philosophy was quite simple, improve the mind and you improve your body, here that has been reversed to heal the body and oh there are some principles as well, so people go through a healing ritual every day rather than applying what has become known as the Reiki principles, which are there to help people become self aware so that they can progress and develop themselves.

Apart from the reality that there is only one being involved in a healing session not two, the other reality is that until someone knows how to create a healing change within the fullness of self, then they are not in a position to create a healing change for self or others through self. 😉

That is not my understanding of what Usui did, to my understanding he healed people and encouraged them to develop themselves utilising the Reiki principles, which is the only constant between the systems that he created.
If people wanted to learn to do what he originally did, then he would give them an empowerment and the principles to practice, healing was not emphasised, it was a byproduct of personal development, in his later system he would attune people to the symbols that he had empowered and give the principles to help them develop themselves.

I have said this before, without the various connection procedures that are utilised in the modalities, then people have not got the starting point to help develop themselves further, there are not many people who can achieve the state of consciousness that is required to enable them to start healing without someone else's help to get them started.
I spent years trying to teach people how to heal without understanding this basic principle and did not get any where, it did not matter that I could heal, I did not have a way of helping them to learn how to do what I did. I did not understand this until years later when I got round to learning several different healing modalities, then the penny finally dropped, people require a shift in consciousness that will allow them to connect with the fullness of self, this is what the empowerments and attunements or the self activations are used for in the healing modalities.
But then I also understand that people also require a shift in consciousness if they are going to embrace a healing change within them. 🙂
The healer is of course not the source merely a channel.
My personal suggestion would be the same as for most everything else, find someone through personal recommendation.
Someone may call themselves this, that or whatever, but if they have a gift for it and can deliver the goods, so to speak, that's all that matters ultimately.

Back to this thread. Does master/teacher mean anything... ? Why does it matter? With so many people taking Reiki attunements and then re-writing the Reiki manuals as they themselves become master/teachers - then, it doesn't appear to make an iota of difference as to what is actually taught. If reiki is working - then it's working.....

I wonder just what is the best connection procedure, is it one instigated and controlled by a Reiki Master or any humanly created system of healing or is it one that can be asked for by the student with absolutely no input from the teacher?
i was shown just this about 20 years ago by teachers far wiser than i. That for me was the beginning of a different choice for me; what was the choice?
Simple i chose to try and understand what already existed as far as healing was concerned rather then continue to use/teach a man made system of healing. Did i need to be able to control and manipulate that unseen force, no i just needed to maintain a level of openness that allowed its full and complete expression.
No body will ever heal in the way Usui did no matter what they believe the teachings to be.
