It does get quite preachy at times, and not just here--that's something prevalent in all forums I read.

Well, that being said, I've experienced such things since as long as I can recall (the earliest years being in Kindergarten, and I don't know what my age was at that time, but it was young...).

What initiated your interest in chakras?

Well, I've had a sensation of buzzing energy at the base of my spine and sometimes further up the spine for about 3 years now so that made me wonder initially, and I spent a fair bit of time trying to figure out what was going on. Have given up on that now, it is whatever it is! Maybe kundalini, maybe just sensing energy who knows?

More recently I happened to see a leaflet advertising chakra balancing / healing and had a strong intuitive feeling I should do it!

I find it hard to subscribe to any belief systems, I can relate to what is being said only once I experience something for myself......

I have to agree with you on that.

Since it is a buzzing sensation in your spine, what leads you to believe it's related to a chakra energy-type of experience rather than a potential health concern? I ask because I worked full time as a medical massage therapist for many years (retiring only on account of the repetitive stress to my knuckles) and have had experience working with individuals with spinal injuries. I also knew a spiritual person who regularly described a tingly sensation in his limbs and insisted it was an "initiation" to his smaller chakras from a higher spiritual guide--he was absolutely certain that his spirit guide was keeping him in perfect health and would protect him from all diseases. Some time later during a physical he was told by his physician that symptom was a symptom of diabetes, who then held up the copy of his blood test results. Since that time I've always made a point to rule out as many real-world physical reasons as much as possible before accepting an experience as a legitimately spiritual one.

Is it just the buzzing, or do you see colors or perceive different frequencies of energies in some way?

I'm at a point in my life now where I can distinguish physical "there's a problem with my body" type of electrical buzzing and spiritual electrical type of buzzing. I think that I really started to understand the differences when I turned 38, and now that I've observed them for a few years (now I'm 45) it's become much easier.

I see colors on occasion, but less now than in the past. That may be because I've lost interest in perceiving the energy in that way, and there are a number of reasons for that. The main reason is that I grew tired of the constant differences in colors people would describe energy centers of others. I'd be looking at a friends chakra along with two others, all of us equally clairvoyant (or so we claimed), and each of us would see different colors. I know that all of us perceived something, and our intuitions about what was going on in that chakra were in alignment with each other, but the colors perceived were significantly different, so that causes me to believe colors may not be reliable.

Yes, that's a good point. I did do some research into what might cause something like this from a physical point of view but couldn't find anything (although obviously can't rule it out entirely).

There have been other things going on however that have made me think it is more of an energetic thing. At the beginning, sensations of a kind of spiritual ecstasy (it's hard to put into words), sense of being submerged in water when meditating, sound of bells ringing one night (and yes, I am perfectly sane!). Some colours at the beginning. Quite a bit of stuff that is hard to explain and probably not that important.

I think we perceive colours according to how we are, i.e. the colours are frequencies/energies and we interpret them according to how we are made individually.

Are these mutually exclusive?

No, it could be a combination of both couldn't it? I don't know.
