I have currently had 2 Reiki sessions in the last 2 weeks, with the hope it will help me, for a deep fear that I have which is affecting my life.
I have never had Reiki before. I have had hypnotherapy with no luck (don't think I relaxed enough), and did a bit of EFT with no joy either.
So I decided to give Reiki a go. Am also taking some flower essences at the moment as well.
My question is, to any givers or receivers of Reiki, can Reiki remove a deep rooted fear?
If so, in your experience how many sessions did it take (roughly)?
I realise everyone is different and it's hard to say but I just want an idea. Should I start to feel any effects after 2 sessions? I do feel very positive, but I still have the fear, I don't feel any different in terms of 'how' scared I am at the thought of doing this thing that I'm scared of. (Sorry don't really want to say what it is).
I did ask my Reiki practitioner, but she gave a very vague round about answer, which I understand why because like she said I should listen to my body and instincts but I am so desperate to rid myself of this fear and although Reiki is a lovely experience I don't want to waste my money if it isn't working for me.
I am booked in for another session anyway, but do you think I should feel different after 3 sessions, or would you say book in for more?
Thank you for any help and advice you can give regarding this!
🙂
Hi,
That is an interesting question, and one I get asked by clients often. It is hard to give a definitive answer, there are many factors to take into account.
One factor is the practitioner. It depends on the practitioner and how they work with Reiki. Generally, if they work in active way, the trauma will be removed in fewer treatments, if they work in a passive way, it will take more treatments. Obviously it also depends on the individual practitioner and their ability and experience.
The other factor is how deep rooted the trauma is. In my experience, most clients start to feel much better after the first treatment, but in the worst case-scenario it took 5 treatments to clear a deep rooted and very painful emotional trauma.
One other factor you need to think about, is the fear there for a reason? Is it there to perhaps make you think twice about doing something? It could be a case of the fear is there to protect you. Maybe the healing process will help you to understand the fear and why it is there, and perhaps it will mean you will understand and accept the fear.
Hiya
I havent treated anyone yet for deep seated trauma/fears But I feel it should be possible. Specially for someone with Usui Reiki 2.
Diane Stein in her book Essential Reiki describes a technique using the harmony symbol and the distance symbol. Healing first the emotional charge, then getting the client to go back to when something happened to create the fear, and get the person to imagine what the next day would be like if said event did not happen etc.
The other thing is you can use intention to send reiki. So it might be worth after your reiki practitioner has done the body treatment, to send some but intend for it to go to the cause of the fear, and you can help aswell by when they do this, you intend for the reiki to be used to help release the deep seated fear. 🙂
Hello
Reiki may well remove a deep seated fear. Personally I'm not as scared of spiders as I was before I became attuned, which is saying something (I used to have a hissy fit if I had a money spider on me!).
I've read somewhere that you can do healing attunements for fear. A bit later on I'll have a look at my books and see if I can find a reference for you.
Cheers
Thank you all so much for your replies.:)
My fear is one that I have no idea where it stems from. It is not a fear I am prepared to accept, at least not to live with for the rest of my life anyway. So even if it is there to teach me something, I still need it gone. I am thinking it could be a past life issue. Would that make it harder for reiki to clear it?
Omega1, my practitioner is aware of my issue but I am not sure whether she is working in an active or passive way? Maybe I should ask her. I thought the reiki energy goes to wherever it is needed?
The Magician, does the intention have to come from the practitioner? Is that the same as working in an active way?
ChrisRams, thank you for offering to look at your books for me I would appreciate that.
Thanks again for your replies! 🙂
Hiya HoneyUK
The intention doesnt necessarily have to come from the practitioner, as ultimately you are in charge of your own healing. So if you sat there and made the intention that the reiki would help release this fear, then it would do that as-well as go anywhere it is needed. It will also help with past life issues. Reiki can go anywhere past, present, future, past-life etc
Thank you, The Magician!
I will focus my intention more on my next session!

Hi Honey,
I teach an energy class called All-Love it is the more developed form of Seichim also known as Sekhem which I introduced back in 1984. All-Love also has a very strong connection to Reiki as it was through my Reiki experience that I realized how easy it was to work with others. I do feel that Reiki can heal traumas; however, your general Reiki course will not necessarily give you the skills to deal with them, it is also illegal to claim to heal in many countries without a license . What has happened with the development of All-Love is that I began to see how quickly deeply rooted Traumas would become unraveled and let go. The key is all about opening up to Love; rather than have such a strong emphasis on symbols and rituals. All-Love has specific methods that basically have you experience your fear to its most intense point and then it just simply opens the door to Love naturally.
The success of the system has caught the eye of many Medical Professionals. Drs Teresa Parrott,Graham Crook both experience our All-Love class and were so impressed with the result they immediately wrote about on their class experience. Here is the link

I hope this helps

Honey, although Reiki can help remove deep-seated fears, it is very much down to the partnership between therapist and patient and how much inner work you are prepared to undergo. By reading your post, you say you've 'tried' hypnosis and EFT with no luck and I wonder if you are not pressuring yourself and the therapies for instant results?
Fear often has to be faced and understood to be released and if I were treating you I would be doing some basic counselling alongside, helping you to talk through your fear and understand it. I'd possibly suggest combining EFT and reiki, as they work well together.
All healing comes from within and the method used is not important - it's how much you are willing to trust yourself and the process. I wish you well on your healing journey.

Hi,
The thing about 'the energy goes where it needs to' is not strictly speaking true. Areas that require healing energy will absorb and react to the energy, but it is up to the practitioner to channel the energy at the appropriate frequency and put it in the right location. It has been found for example, that memories or in your case fears are stored as chemical messages in the brain. It has been demonstrated in a study that high frequency energy when applied to the brain area can re-write or delete the chemical message (memory, fear or trauma). So with Reiki, the higher frequency range of the emotional energy symbol needs to be used and the energy needs to be put where it is needed.
The practitioner and the client can both use intention and visualisation to increase the effectiveness of the treatment. Again, this has been proven in studies to be effective. Perhaps for you a combination of effective Reiki treatment and visualisation, intention and affirmations would be the best thing.
Hi Honey,
Sorry to hear that you're having a difficult time, and hope that the follow-up sessions have been helpful.
It's difficult to speculate about your particular case without knowing your practitioner's background and the exact methods which he or she uses. Today, there are so many branches of Reiki; practitioners come from all kinds of various backgrounds, and often have widely divergent beliefs and practices. It's sometimes very difficult to find consistency between practitioners, even those who share the same, or a similar tradition.
In the history of my own practice, I've seen Reiki have a marked and positive effect on all kinds of conditions, be they physical or emotional. However, in my own experience, I've rarely seen longstanding issues or health conditions to be completely resolved in a session or two. Others may tell you differently.
When I have a client with a deep seated emotional issue, or a serious / chronic health condition, I'll generally encourage them to consider taking a Shoden (Reiki I) course, where they can learn how to perform treatments for themselves, and other techniques that encourage strength and vitality in one's ki. This option tends to be much more affordable over the long term than long courses of treatments, and also puts the management of the client's health into their own hands, which can be very positive and enpowering. In my opinion it is this self-empowerment which is at the very core of the system of Reiki.
There's an excellent book that is all about getting the most out of your Reiki treatments which might be very helpful to you. It's called Your Reiki Treatment: How to get the most out of it and is by Frans and Bronwen Stiene. It's available from many booksellers, amazon.co.uk, and the authors' own website which is www.reiki.net.au
Hope that this is helpful, and take care!
Allison

Thank you, maybe you are right in that I am pressuring myself and the therapies for results.
I don't expect it to be miraculously gone in 1 session, but I guess my question was more should I feel even a 'little' different after 2 sessions?
I don't mind working with the therapist and having as many sessions as it takes to help me but at the same time I don't want to waste time and money on this if it isn't going to work. I realise nobody can predict that but I guess I wanted experienced opinions on whether it could, and in your professional opinions do you think I would be better off sticking with it for a few more sessions?
Omega1, you mentioned in one of your posts that in a worst case scenario it took someone 5 treatments to clear their issue. Has anyone experienced anyone needing more than 5 sessions?
The therapist who I saw for the EFT, I saw her for 3 sessions. The first session was made up of the consultation, muscle testing (where she told me my issue started when I was in the womb), a little reiki and then EFT.
The second session was made up mostly of muscle testing to find out what vitamins/supplements I needed and then a short EFT session.
Third session was only a short bit of EFT and she said at this one that she wasn't sure what else she could do as I had said I didn't feel any different.
She did give me contact details of people she said might be able to help but as the location of them was too far for me I didn't contact them.
I was a little disappointed as she was a lovely woman, very professional and seemed to know what she was doing. Although the second session I had with her didn't seem as 'productive' as the first. Also they were 3-4 weeks apart for each session and I felt that maybe they should have been more frequent but she said it takes around that time for your body to adjust from each treatment?! So I don't know!
aurorareiki, thank you for your book rec, it looks good and may order it.
Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to post so far. Any more advice greatly appreciated.
🙂
Hi Honey
I'm intrigued by your expectations.
Are you expecting a magic wand?
Is the fact that you are still nurturing your fear by expecting it to be healed - looking for it and still finding it there and then saying "the healing hasn't worked" - prejudicing the healing process? Does your fear mean more to you than you realise? Is it fulfilling a purpose for you?
Only when you have answered these questions will your fear disappear. You need to be honest about what this fear is doing for you before you can get rid.
I don't know if you ever saw "Buffy the Vampire Slayer". There was an episode where one of Buffy's friends used a spell book to create an ever so evil horrible devil. When this devil finally materialised, the huge ugly monster they were expecting turned out to be... one inch tall. So Buffy stood on it and killed it.
Sometimes what we think is a massive problem is actually something we base our lives on, and to remove it would be to remove what makes us ourselves.
Maybe Reiki has already healed this fear, but you need to let go of it and walk away from it before you will know this.
Sorry if this sounds harsh but sometimes we need to be told.

Hi ChrisRams,
I'm not expecting a magic wand, but I guess I expect to just feel a 'little' different. Maybe more courage to face my fear, but I don't feel anything yet.
How do I let go of it? How can you walk away from something that has been with you and affected you for years, just like that?
I am not saying it should be easy, or disappear like magic. My question was simply 'should I feel even slightly different or is this normal for a long standing fear?'.
This is my first experience with reiki so of course I do not know much about it and what it CAN do, and what to expect as far as how you feel after.
Do you see what I'm saying?
I am not trying to look for an easy way out. I know the healing has to ultimately come from me, I just want some help, to start that shift in my mind!
Obviously when you read success stories (such as from EFT) with regards to people overcoming fears and phobias, you do EXPECT some results, not magic ones but just something at least.
My fear means nothing to me other than like having a black cloud hovering over my head following me around. And its not fulfilling a purpose other than preventing me from having a fulfilled life.
Hiya Honeyuk
Im going to suggest two things, take what resonates leave what doesnt.
Firstly have you thought about counselling. You could talk about your fear and they could listen, and by talking about it, how it makes you feel, you may find some connections to this fear and things that have happened. By talking about it etc will help in the release process.
Secondly Keeping a journal. Kinda going on the same principle as above but this time you write about the fear, and anything connected to it, ie how you feel about it, how it has held you back etc doesnt matter how trivial it is, write it as you may notice a pattern, and again connections, and by writing you will be getting it out of your system.
