I just thought I would share my experience with a very unusual patient. The lady is a patient in the Day hospice where I volunteer. UNlike most of the hospice patients she has Huntogton's disease and makes continual jerky movement with her head and arms. She is confined to a wheel chair and cannot speak properly. She has been coming to the hospice regularly for about 3 years (unlike most patients who come for a few weeks and then get discharged) Last week they mentioned that she was getting benefit from the relaxation sessions and they asked me if I thought reiki might help her - and if I thought I could treat her.

Obviously she wouldn't be the easiest person to treat since lying still isn't an option. However after getting consent from her husband and herself, and agreement from the doctors that reiki wasn't going to interfere with anything today I tentatively gave her a treatment,

It was interesting. The best position was with her feet on my lap ( a position she finds comfortable) so most of the reiki went in via her feet but I did manage to do some on her shoulders/chest, and a very very short bust on each hand (no more than a minute o each)

Originally I felt I would aim for 15 minutes - and be happy if I gave 10. As it was I treated her for nearly 20 minutes and judging by her reactions later the staff felt it had helped her relax. She certainly indicated she would like another treatment next week.

When we are trained to give reiki we are trained to work with basically co-operative patients. Working with an un co-operative one (albeit not her fault) is challenging but very rewarding.

Thank you for sharing. I'd love to hear what progress you achieve with further treatments.:)

This might be a situation where distance energy healing could be used. I treated my daughter when she had kidney and liver failure...I was afraid to touch her. I sat in a chair in her hospital room and sent and called out and sent some more. I cried out for the universe not to deny me. At 5:30AM she turned pink and they said they thought she would live. She complained at one point about the heat but I reassured her that it was part of the reiki process.

They might not get the satisfaction of someone touching them but the healing happens just the same.

No this one of my referrals from the hospice where I volunteer and although reiki is one of their approved therapies, distance reiki wouldn't be. Mind you EFT also isn't one of their approved therapies - which really annoys me!!

If she was a private client I would consider distance with us in the same room. HOwever she really love having her feet on my lap so thats what we do most of the time.

She is now up to 30 minutes , and really enjoys her treatment. Both her husband and carer feel she is benefitting from it

I've just seen from your comments that you learned reiki from a book. Have you not had attunement in person?

If you are refering to me? I have read many books by many authors's on Reiki. It is possible to access the source without an attunement. I did it for 2 years while I studied.

I have in person, in classes.... recived a master teacher in 2 traditions.

I have never, however, been employed and had to follow any "rules". I have my own shop so I can be flexible.

When my daughter was dieing...I had been studying Reiki for 2 years and was scheduled to attend reiki 1 and 2 classes out of town in the next couple of months. I called out and asked for whatever power or conection I would have after those attunements for my use there and then. The universe was kind and tweeked time for me. For which I will always be greatful.

Sorry yes it was aimed at you. I should have quoted your post!

. That is very different to what I was taught. One of the things that distinguishes reiki form other healing systems is the empowerment of the student by the master.I recognise that can be done at a distance (just as healing can) but the federation of which I am a member insists on attunement in person to be accepted.

I find the differences fascinating

Reiki can be sent through time and space. I may have asked for something inappropriate but the universe said yes. I just asked to be given what I did recive 3 months later. Usui and Seichem are the 2 master teacher certifications that I hold...classes taken...hands on my head...chakras opened... symbols implanted in my aura...by someone with proper lineage...etc...etc...etc. ..

But... That was just the beginning. I study just about anything that calls to me. I know nothing about the federations. I wonder what the source thinks of federations (or even if they are on his or her radar) am only concered with the development of psychic abilities, conecting to the source and realizing my calling on this planet. To be enlightened.

But for another thread...I was a natural healer born with hot hands...I just didn't know how or what that ment till I started to study reiki. I realize after talking to other healers...I was probably a healer in a past life. This is not an exception in our field. And Reiki is but a small part of energy healing. An evolution is taking place as we speak. Take a look at Eric Pearl's "Reconnection".

What I was taught I was taught before I even knew of the federation. I didn't even have to join it but I chose to because it is attempting to get reiki on the same footing as other more conventional therapies . By laying down standards of training and a code of ethics it is showing reiki therapists are as good as pharmacists (my profession for over 30 years) in terms of ethics, conduct, will respect patient confidentiality, recognise the limits of their competence etc etc so the public can trust them.

I wasn't a natural healer. I came to reiki late in life in a very strange way. I have been a healer all my life since pharmacy is one of the caring professions - I have now been led to a different way to heal.

Thats the beauty of reiki anyone can do it. I am on a mission to attune as many people as I can to level 1. 🙂

You are right...of course. I just bristle a little at earthly requirements for unearthly experience. And I am not much for falling in line:p

Everthing you say is true.
