Just wondered if anybody could tell me in what instances should Reflexology not be used?

Thanks

RE: When should Reflexology not be used?

Hi AngelEyes

Different people are taught different things, but I don't think any reflexologist would treat a person who has gangrene or has had an accident that may have resulted in fractures and/or internal bleeding. Deep vein thrombosis is another contra indication. I don't think any of us would treat someone who was drunk or abusive. Where a person has cancer or is pregnant for example, one reflexologist might not treat while another would. If you are training at present it's best to go with what you are taught. I'm sure you'll get more replies on this subject.

Hiya
Now I have experience I will pretty much treat anyone.....except for the following:

Fever
Infectious disorder
Drunk/High on Drugs
Unexplained medical condition undergoing investigation
I will do the hands instead of the feet on those SEVERELY affected by diabetes with poor circulation.

There are lots of things they say not to treat for but I have never had a problem and generally have a gut instinct as to when it is ok or not....

I agree with you.

Contra-indications should be covered in your course and you will probably be given a big list, most of which, most of us ignore. But then that's from experience, so go with what you are told.;)

I would agree with all of the above. You can often visually by looking at something on the feet where common sense will tell you not to treat.

Be careful if your client has a condition that will not be helped by increased circulation or use of their adrenals.

The most important part of a session will be the consultation first of all where you can ask all these types of questions. Although, many people will not think of telling you something.

Long lists of contra-indications can look worrying but don't worry yourself, most are unusual so just enjoy the feet.
