Hello,
I'm new here, I finished my VTCT reflexology during the summer and I am now doing the advanced couse. I have a few questions I was wondering if you could help me with.
I've got a client (who is also someone I know) and he is a person who never allows himself to be ill as he runs his own business. Ihave given him two basic treatments, every night since thefirst one he has woken during the night with a tingly foot (and a slightclaustaphobic feeling although he says it could be the dog on the bed making he feel claustrophobic). The tingly feeling is not the same as pins and needles, he stands up, walks around, then goes back to bed and sleeps. Hasanybody else has had this type of reaction?
Two weeks after the fiirst treatment (Tuesday 22nd) I gave hime another treatment he said he has never had so many ailments in his life andduring that second treatment he was suprised when Itold him where all the imbalances were as they all matched his aliments.
That evening my tutor hastold me that the tingly foot problem is the build up of crystals in his feet moving and to give him some acupressure on his foot but he has been too busy.
The day after hissecond treatment he told me that the skin on hisupper torso became dry and sensitive,I explained that this isthe body eliminatimg the toxinsand to drink plenty of water. I just want to double check that I was right to say that.?
I have now woken during the night twice now worrying about him and that is not usual for me, I am not sure where my responsibilty stops and I am wondering if I am not disconnecting properly?
I am also treating his wife, who has less physical reactions, yesterday made a radical desision tohalve her work resposibilties down, they work together.
Sorry of this is a bit garbbled, I just don't want to do anything wrong.
Thank you for listening,
Kathrynx
RE: treatment reactions
Kathrynx,
I am new to reflexology also but over in the States. I trained at the IIR with Dwight Byers. Before I went for a 6 day course with him I gave my husband a session and then he got a nasty cold. Unfortunately I had to leave for my class a couple days later. I asked Mr. Byers about it and he said the same thing as your instructor. It was the toxins coming out of his system. Actually, that he was going to get a coldand thatreflexology brought it on quickly but had I been home with him I would have been able to help him get over that cold a lot quicker than normal. Since then my husband hashad some sinus problems and I work on his toes as much as he will allow and it has seemed to lessenthe severity of his symptoms. Encourage your friend to come in for treatments, reflexology will help him. You did not do this to him. Its just the toxins coming out. Some people have a lot more than others. I worry like you do sometimes. But I find I helpful to talk to my instructors, to read different books, and of course these message boards are wonderful.

RE: treatment reactions
Thanks for your reply Aimee,
I guess it just a bit of a shock for megetting some strong reactions from a client. Also the differance working with people less familiar with holistic therapies. I expect that the more people I treat then my confidence will grow, with everyone reacting diffently is a bit confusing sometimes!

RE: treatment reactions
Dear Kathryn
It is hard sometimes not to worry and wonder what you've 'done' your client, although we know that reflexology doesn't do harm. It sounds as though the reflexology has set in motion his own healing processes and they are doing a sort of clean up job. He is someone who hasn't got time to be ill, so maybe things have accumulated somewhat. Anyway, it sounds as though you're doing a grand job and I'm sure he will reap the benefits even though he's probably feeling a bit below par at the moment.
