Hi everybody,
I would like to enrol in an ITEC Diploma of Reflexology course in the UK. I have been exploring, reading, emailing and comparing info from different ITEC accredited training centres sites all over the UK . I am a bit tired and confused. :S
I live in France and would like to move to UK now in September 2012 to take some English courses and the Reflex. training which means time, money and efforts! 🙂
Does anyone have any opinion on St Mary's college quality of Reflexology training in Twickenham? I would prefer to finish in 6 months that is why I am planning on following this course.
Can you give me any tips to choose the right centre?
Thank you.
Mimi
Your training in the UK
Hi
Back in 1991 I did an ITEC course, and I didn't even know they were still going to be honest!
It was basic and these days you probably should look for a course that's externally evaluated (ie not school specific) and on a government recognised qualifications framework.
This would be a QCF level 3 reflexology diploma.
It'll give you a very good training.
Wishing you all the very best.:)
It must be added that the ITEC Diploma in Reflexology is externally evaluated (ie not school specific) and on a government recognised qualifications framework, and is QCF level 3.
Ooops...yes, no offence meant!
I didn't mean to imply ITEC was not good enough. I've a couple of clients who've gone on to study reflexology and they've each followed a different training 'path'...with mixed experiences in both the quality and provision of the training they've received.
Back in 1991 after qualifying with ITEC, I encountered very strong encouragement from my tutor to join one of the then available Reflexology Organisations in order to have more 'status/kudos'. That involved sitting yet another examination, which I passed. I subsequently became disenchanted with the aims and practices of that Organisation, and in 2004 I applied to join the AoR and guess what?.....I had to sit another written, practical exams and provide case studies, because seemingly my qualifications with ITEC and the other Organisation were not recognised as being 'good enough'.
That's behind my advising that it's best to study for a course that conforms to a government framework and therefore is 'universally' recognised (at least in the UK), and one that is externally evaluated and not linked to either a school or an Organisation.
I sorry GT but that's the past. Modern qualifications whether ITEC, VTCT, ABC or whoever are QCF level 3, and the modern ITEC qual is now an acceptable standard for full membership of the AoR for example.
Talking of the past, back in the day, ITEC was acceptable once to the AoR under JAMES accreditation, which brought it up to the standard of the then AoR Examination Board. But ITEC decided that they wouldn't run two diplomas at different standards and just carried on with the typical 40 case study stuff, as far as I can remember

And that includes ITEC. We wouldn't want the OP to be confused :p
Thank goodness, eh?
I'm sooo glad that the years of talking and negotiation by The Reflexology Forum members have produced a core curriculum agreed by ALL, and acceptable to ALL.
🙂
Mimi - you have been given good advice by previous posters, but if you wish to return to France at some time and practice as a reflexologist, you may find that the ITEC qualification is not recognised there.
What is recognised in France? They have a different rules and ways of doing things. She may have to join a recognised union to be able to practice, or just duck and dive 😀
