Hi, I've been going to a reflexologist for some weeks now as a case study. I don't have much wrong with me but she has been focusing on balancing my menopause symptoms. Only trouble is, every time I get a session, I have a period afterward. No pain, but a clean flow. I've asked her about this and her response was a) it's a clearing out or b) I'm not sure - perhaps you should take some iron tablets in the meantime.

She was trained in South Africa some years ago but has to re-take her exams to practice in the UK.

So - can anyone offer a qualified opinon on this? I must add that I often fall asleep during the sessions and do feel kinda tired the next two days, rather than energised.

Ta x

Hi Moonfeather,

IMO the Menopause is not symptoms, it is the next step of life and needs to be embraced rather than eradicated.

By focusing on this area the body is actually being encouraged to revert back to pre-menopausal times - hence the bleeding.

Also if you are now going with the expectation that you will have a bleed and feel tired then that is what you may set up for yourself (our thoughts create our reality) 🙂

Hope this helps.

Strangely enough I had several reflexology treatments whilst I was learning reflexology this year as we practised on each other and my periods had ceased for over a year then suddenly started again out of the blue - I thought it was to do with the fact that my daughter had moved back in with us and her hormones were triggering it, but now I wonder if it was the reflexology instead!

Hi Gaiaholistix, I quite agree - the menopause is a natural process of the body and I thought I was through with periods (approx five months since they stopped) until this started happening! Since I wasn't too unhealthy to begin with, I suggested she help with my heat rashes, which were driving me a bit crazy. So... she may be overdoing it?

And I know what you mean about expectation leading to results but it wasn't until the third time that I made the connection and began to wonder if it was the case. I really didn't have any expectations about the reflexology, being open to whatever my body requires.

Hi Moonfeather,

I see Reflexology very much as an intuitive healing treatment so it is vital that both the giver and receiver of a session are in harmony with how they would like the outcome to unfold.

It could be that you both have differing opinions of how a healthy, hormonally balanced woman should be. IMO it is that understanding or misunderstanding which is underpinning the healing. (Healing is a thought process which each party needs to take responsibilty for). 🙂

For the heat rash I would suggest more emphasis on the elimination channels - especially the liver and the endocrine system.

Hope this helps.
