Does anyone have a specific way of working the foot during a reflexology session that's easy on the practitioner? I'm a bit worried that some of the techniques I've read about - such as pushing in and back by using the thumb, etc, could actually lead to RSI. Am I just worrying about nothing? Do you find your hands/fingers ache after a full day of reflexology practice?
Many thanks,
Cinammon
Hi C
RSI in the thumbs of reflexologists is very common. It is possible to use your knuckles and even wooden massage tools which are popular in Thailand and other parts of Asia. A lot of reflexologists don't like the idea of this as they claim that you lose sensitivity. But you can palpate with the thumb, then use the alternative knuckle or tool technique, then palpate with the thumb again to check. Problem solved!
Also there are various gentle touch reflexology methods that don't need much direct pressure, and it is also possible to use Reiki techniques on tender points.

Thanks, Reiki Pixie! Appreciate it!
I was thinking about using the tools - that sounds like a good technique. Best of both worlds!
All the best,

Just check to see if the tools are covered by your insurance!
