Hi. I am on a VTCT reflexology course at present but am finding a real problem.
I have had atheletes foot for about 6 months so cant have any treatment done. Its only on the same toes on each foot. I have tried all the remedies on the market - lamisil, daktarin, canesten and the rest. Also tried teatree. Nothing is clearing it so went to my doctor who said its not bad enough for him to treat. I change my socks at least twice a day and more if I'm doing a lot of walking/exercise. I also use talc.
I did read in one of my books on reflexology that getting AF on these toes indicates a bladder problem but I seem to be fine. I do have asthma, fibromyalgia and psycotic depression but these are all under medicational control.
I really love reflexology and would love a treament. Does anyone have any advice?
Thanks
Kirsty
RE: Reflexology and Atheletes Foot
Have you tried going to a health food shop and seeing if they have any natural remedies that may help with controlling the athletes foot?
Or have you tried to use tea tree oil (not 100% sure if you can use it on af) these could be worth a try. At least with natural remedies they will not affect the other medication that you are currently taking.

RE: Reflexology and Atheletes Foot
Hi
I'm only doing a course myself at the moment so I'm no expert but as far as we're taught, Athlete's Foot is not a contra-indication to a full treatment. Basically you can have a treatment but the reflexologist just avoids the infected area, which given that the AF only affects the toes(I think) still leaves you heaps of feet!
Might be worth bearing in mind that the presence of AF indicates a weakened immune system so have a look at it holistically as well.

Hi
I expect that if you were to receive hand reflexology covering the affected toe areas that this might help to repair and reduce the stagnation of energy and possibly help get rid of the athlete's foot?

lucky!
RE: Reflexology and Atheletes Foot
I don't see why you can't have reflexology - I treat people with Athlete's Foot and only avoid the affected area if it is tender. I just have to be careful about hygiene in my treatment room and washing my hands, etc.
Also my husband suffers from bouts of Athlete's Foot and uses Aloe Propolis cream from Forever Living - it always clears up really quickly. In fact if he uses it all the time the AF doesn't recur.
RE: Reflexology and Atheletes Foot
[:@]This is so ridiculuous? No reflexology cos you have abit of Athletes foot?? Reflexology in itself could help with the body's fight to heal it! My sister has it very badly on her Right foot, all over the pad of the foot, in this case ,I used a glove and avoided cross handed movements to avoid contamination of the other foo and my hands.
I would have a gentle word with ur tutor to address this?
RE: Reflexology and Atheletes Foot
Thanks for all your advice.
I have been taking a Nature's Sunshine Product called Defence Maintance and using normal surgical spirit on it and my AF has cleared up within a week.
So am now free to have a treatment but we are now on to cliets at college so missing out again.
I just have to find a good reflexologist in my area now!! LOL
