Hi - has anyine had any experience of working with anyone with this condition? I have been approached by the Grandmother of a 5 year old girl who has just been diagnosed and said I would do some research before comitting to helping as I was completely in the dark about this 😮
Thanks
This bought back painful memories! I suffered with this (it was called proctodynia at the time) when I was a little girl. I used to get the spasms just a few times a year - it wasn't constant, and I was rarely constipated (which the GP initially thought was the problem) and was a fit and active child - it just used to happen out of the blue, and mainly when I was warm and snug in bed! It felt like a knife was being forced into my rectum, so I know exactly what the little girl is going through. I don't think that you can aim to treat the condition directly, but general relaxation and stimulation of the gut reflexes and bowel/bladder points may help to decrease the frequency of the spasms.
I grew out of it in my late teens, but did experience it twice during my first pregnancy aged 31 - my GP at the time said it may have coincided with the onset of piles!!!!
