Morning all,
Slightly off topic, but as I am approaching the end of my reflexology course, I am stupidly thinking about the next course to take.
Whilst reading various brochures, I read something on one of my oil suppliers website that made me think. He said that when he started he looked at the huge wharehouse he had leased, and thought how on earth am I going to use all this space? The guy he rented off said, "Find out what your customers want, and give it to them!".
So rather than me think "Oh, that would be a nice therapy to add", what do clients want. Do they want something like acupuncture, or craniosacral therapy?
Bearing in mind that some of these therapies are now 2 or 3 years in duration, it might be a little bit of guesswork, as people may have moved to another therapy by the time you qualify.
One of my colleagues spent 3 years, and a fair amount of money studying Anma (bit like acupressure), but her clients seem to prefer her craniosacral therapy instead.
So to conclude. What do your clients want?

RE: O/T Interesting Question.
Hi TC02
This is the $64 million dollar question!
I think you have to find what you like doing, then you 'sell' it with verve and gusto because you believe in it, that makes your clients want it.
Other than that, they want whatever has just been on Richard and Judy! [:o]
Good luck
RE: O/T Interesting Question.
Why don't you go on to do some ART - Advanced Reflexology Techniques or maybe vertical reflexology, precision reflexology or pregnancy / maternity reflexology. Personally I'd rather become really, really good at my chosen therapy rather than becoming a jack of all trades.

RE: O/T Interesting Question.
.
Hiya
well with a lot of time and effort you can be really good at every therapy you do and offer a one stop shop using different therapies at different times to really address the most current issue with your client....
Around a year ago I did a tick box questionnaire to my clients about what they would most like and put the options that I would most like to have studied in, the top result was indian head......followed by reiki (both of which i have now done), ask your case studies what they think as they know your hands and know the style in which you work....and maybe able to give you a clue....also check out other therapists in the area and find out what they dont do and that way you will automatically fill a gap in the market...
Good luck

RE: O/T Interesting Question.
Hi Topcat.
Well, it is tricky. And I don't think you are foolish for already thinking about what to do next...join the club!:D
Funny really. Tracy says about Indian Head? That is the thing I do least and enjoy least too. So, you need to think about what you like doing? It's true, if you are passionate about it you will sell it without even trying. But there is nothing wrong with either concentrating on one therapy or doing multiple ones. Each to their own.
You have to enjoy it and believe in it. I would say though, don't worry about trends etc, they will come and go. Remember things like aromatherapy and reflexology and massage have been around since who knows when.
RE: O/T Interesting Question.
I do it least too matey....its just they all voted for it....i get maybe 1 or 2 a month!!

RE: O/T Interesting Question.
Thx for the replies everyone.
It's definately true that once you've started you cant stop. I seem to be veering towards acupuncture, but my sensible side says, 3yrs, 12K, you must be mad, my wife just gives me that special look normally reserved for when the children have done something exceedingly stupid.
There are quite a few therapists locally who combine therapies, reflex & reiki, spiritual healing, etc, so I'd like to try something a little different, but still hands on.
I think I might compromise and do a IHM course, or maybe L.A. Stone, at least my wife will get some painless benefits, I dont think she'd be too keen to volunteer for the acupuncture.
Thx again.

RE: O/T Interesting Question.
I see where you are coming from. I wanted to do it too, but the cost put me off, not the time though, time is time and flies! Is tricky, especially if you have a family and that is a lot of money.
But....oh dear....follow your heart? Sorry Mrs Topcat! Really.
I am having 5-Elements Acupuncture, we have a therapist at our Centre who does it. I have to say, it is real life-changing stuff and I am getting massive benefits from it and admit to being totally hooked and from a therapy junkie that is saying something.
If you want to know more about it then PM me and I can put you in touch with her.
