Had a new client yesterday for Reflexology, she was diagnosed with ME over 20 years ago,I am always curious about what was going on in that persons life at the time when this occurs and she told me she was 26 at the time and had split from her husband,
Her main symptoms were tiredness, depression and her digestive system was very tender to touch.
She is on a strict diet with no sugar,no dairy etc,She consumes large amounts of raw green vegetable juices and supplements with B complex mag (which I would prefer with calcium) but she says she cannot take calcium. She is also on a sulphur supplement.I think her diet is too rigid,
She had an emotional release during the treatment and told me she had a bad childhood and always felt left out of her family circle of 5 sisters.
I did a light treatment working on the elimination channels and the nervous system.
She said she would like some reiki after or during her Reflexology treatments.
I would love if anyone could share any experiences wth ME,I will be seeing her again next Tuesday,I know depression can be a symptom of ME but I think its deeper than that with this client, also does one really benefit from such a strict diet and the acid in her system, can that be ever released fully with this condition?
Would welcome any advice, thanks in advance 🙂

My cousin has "M.E" star, i just do a normal straight forward reflexology routine, I don't concentrate on any particular area, but she says it gives her a boost of energy. That's all the experience I have had with it I'm afraid, may or may not be helpful, but you can't help someone that won't help themselves (that is another story lol) 🙂

Hi Star

This dietary she is on sounds too rigid. Raw food doesn't suit everyone and if her digestive fire is low then may be it would be weakening.

Because ME is a debillietating illness, better to treat with regular short sessions. Slowly build up the energy levels. Not too much energy too quickly as it may bring on a healing crisis. Not good for a ME sufferer considering their energetic weakness. The thing I have noticed with ME is that the sufferer is hypersensitive, has poor temperature regulation, often has to learn to manage their symptoms.

In terms of specific reflex points: definitely the adrenals & pituitary/hypothalamus, with that the solar plexus for energy, liver if angry, spleen if obsessive or overthinking, kidneys if lacking will power, heart if "down hearted".

Best Wishes

RP

Thanks for posting this RP, it's great to know of someone else that has dealt with sufferers of M.E, my cousin experiences none of this !

Hi JJ

This is my experience, but since ME is has a wide range of symptoms, it will vary from person to person. If it was so simple, the drug companies would develop medication for it.

Best Wishes

Reiki Pixie thank you so much for posting this, her liver was so sensitive I could barely touch it and she was very very down,as regards the diet I do think it is too rigid, the weird thing is she is studying 'nutrition' at moment and Im wondering if she is becoming obsessed with it.Anyhow I will see how she is on Tuesday, thanks again.:)

Hi Star

I didn't look at this thread as I thought it was reflexology-based only - my mistake!

Treating someone with ME is a really complex situation. There are so many different aspects to it - complex physical, mental and emotional. Having had it for some 14 years now and improved considerably - however better one is, lingering weaknesses remain - I realise it is necessary to look at the person as a whole rather than a list of symptoms. The exhaustion was the worst for me!

Much of what goes wrong starts in the gut (as with many problems), so gut healing and healthy bacteria are paramount (supplement 50 billion probiotic bacteria/day). Vegetable juicing should help, see here, but as RP says, it does not suit everyone - this will alkalise the body, but if too much is taken for too long, without enough to acidify (meat, fish, cereals) she may become too alkaline, bringing with it its own problems. A healthy, balanced diet is usually best. She will probably be getting a reasonable amount of magnesium and calcium from her veges, but it would be better if the form she takes is in the malate form (part of the Krebs cycle that those with ME often have problems with), eg Mg malate. Apples also supply malate. Is she avoiding sugar because of possible Candida?

The liver being so sensitive indicates to me that it has problems detoxing, and she wont start to feel better until it is working properly. Some milk thistle may help. Oat bran may help to clear unwanted hormone residues (drink hot water with lemon in before breakfast and a tablespoon of oatbran added to porridge, smoothie, etc.) It may be better for her to do a food intolerance test (IgG ELISA) from here and then she will know what is impacting on her energy levels, and maybe allow some foods back.

As you say, the depression may be not just be as a result of the ME, if she had previous problems - and EFT can help sort out that out as you know. The impact of ME on one's life is simply enormous! and one just doesn't have the energy to get angry or upset (takes too much energy) - so these may be underlying emotions. One becomes depressed because of one's inability to do anything!

How's her thyroid, and adrenals by the way? Has she been tested for low thyroid as the symptoms can be intertwined with the ME.

Hope that helps

Love and Light

Hi S99

Forgotten to mention that treating adrenal & hypothalamus/pituitary reflex is also backed by scientific research (unfortunately can't remembered where) suggesting that there is a problem with the adrenal-hypothalamus/pituitary axis. But as CN suggests there can be problems with the krelps cycle in cellular respiration. I think there was some psychological research on ME, and the conclusion that ME people have issues with the opposite gender parent. make whatever you like from that?!?!

Personally I don't think there is a simple solution to ME. Better to treat the whole person (body & mind) based on symptoms presented.

Has anyone met a ME person that before becoming ill was lazy? They all seem to me highly driven active individuals before ME. A symptom of nervous/adrenal burn out?

Best Wishes

RP

Hi Caroline,I did start this thread in the Reflexology form but is has become a more holistic thread as with any therapy.
My client does feel tired but not too exhausted, she has a total alkalline diet, which I will discuss with her on Tuesday.I had mentioned Milk thistle to her and she said she would give it a try, great advice re the oat bran, apples etc.
I did mention EFT to her and we agreed to discuss it again on Tuesday,Im not a practicioner yet but its ok to discuss it and relay my personal experiences.
She had her thyroid checked 6 months ago and all seemed ok,but I always aware that them readings can be so incorrect.
Thanks again Caroline for this fab info and Im pleased that you are coping so well yourself xx

Hi RP!

Yes, I agree that more often than not those with ME have adrenal/hypothalmus/pituitary burnout problems - because they were very active/driven people. There is however evidence of viral involvement - but that may be due to reduced immune function as a result of adrenal insufficiency! As you are fully aware, no part of the body works independently ... 🙂 Recovery can be delayed by their wanting to get back to their former life and overdoing it. Pacing is vital!!
