My second client is 33 weeks pregnant could anybody give me any tips about what areas what begood to emphasis on along with the normal reflex routine? Do you think I should avoid the reproductive area completely or is it okas she is at 33 weeks? Are thereany good books I could bereading on pregnancy reflex before next Thursday evening?

RE: First clients

Hi Kingy,

good luck with your first clients...so exciting!!!

When i treat pg clients, i avoid pituatary, reproductive area and try to give special attention to diaghram area because i know when i was pg what i used to feel like towards the end. I have seen baby move up foot as it does on body so i also try not to put too much pressure where baby woudl be lying in actual body, ie digestive area. So i tend to do a gentle treatment all over apart from what i said above. i also read that the sciatic nerve shoudl be avoided, i am not sure why? maybe soemone will tell us otherwise? so i tend to give teh ankle a nice massage during the time i woudl of spent on the reflexes i avoid. I also gently touch the womb area and send relaxing energy to baby.

I do beleive when client gets to around 37 wks you can start working the pituarty gland to encourage the hormones to start working, and i believe you would then work teh whole foot including reproductive......but like you i will be very interested to read advice from more experienced people...as i am really going with what info i have read but mainly my intuition....

wishing you lots of luck, and enjoy..... i have been qualified since nov last year and enjoy it so much!!

Jess xx

RE: First clients

Hi Kingy,

In contrast I would be payingmore attention to the digestive organs ~ constipation and bloating can be a problem for many pregnant ladies !! The digestive system tends to become squashed particularly during later pregnancy !! Also the hormones can play havoc with the digestion !! The spinal areas, in particular the lumbar region normally welcomes a bit of work !!

As far as avoiding areas ..... well I personally don't !! You can't make the body do anything it doesn't want to do !! Reflexology is all about restoring balance and encouraging the body to return to it's natural state !! Pregnancy is a natural state of affairs and working the endocrine system or touching the uterus IMHO will not bring on labour !! If that were the case wouldn't we be bringing on a heart attack in our clients everytime we touched the heart reflex ???;)

Work the feet gently ~ yes !! But workthem all the same !!

RE: First clients

Hi,

I agree with meridianmoon.

If you'd like a good book about maternity clients, have a look at Susanne Enzer's 'Maternity Reflexology Manual'.

It includes the three acupressure points that you should avoid during pregnancy.

RE: First clients

🙂 Hi all

Thanks potion for the book recomendation as will hopefully be treating a friend who will be 12 weeks in a fortnight. She was one of my case studies in march and I played for her wedding a fortnight ago. She may drum up business at the antenatal classes!
