Hi, I am curious has anyone on here ever approached a Doctor's surgery direct offering their therapies?

2 surgeries are happy to display my leaflets . I have never tried asking to work IN a surgery tho. However I do have a room in a pharmacy which is working out quite well

Yes, I have approached GP surgeries. I asked for appointments to speak with Practice Managers, then met them and explained what I did and left leaflets. That was in 1998. I never heard from them, nor, I am told, were any of the leaflets displayed. I spoke to a GP friend who said that her practice gets leaflet 'drops' from comp therapists all the time, but they can do nothing with them, as they are not funding comp therapy. They cannot recommend particular individuals either.

I was asked by a local practice manager if I would like to rent a room in the practice, but the room hire was prohibitive. I would also have just used the space - I could not display leaflets in the waiting room. It was all a bit daft really. I gather the room is now used as a store room for the physio equipment!

No harm in giving it a go though! Let us know how you get on!

Thanks for replies, interesting eh!

I have written a letter to the practice I have just changed to, enclosed a leaflet etc., I have explained that therapy is carried out in my own place (defo not surgery) to clinical! I am just off to hand it in, watch by this time next month I will be inundated with people demanding the Doc sends them to me...:dogrun:

Humm, just feeding back here, no reply from letter to Practice Manager at Docs. I mean how difficult is it just to send a courteous quick email.

I am getting ready to revert my lovely therapy room back to dining room...

Could you leave a bit of space in the room just in case someone calls you out of the blue? I am still waiting to hear from local doctors - I've been waiting since 1998! I gave up on them within a couple of weeks I'm afraid and regretted wasting money on boxes of chocolates that I left with them as a thank you for listening to my 'chat'!!!

All my clients have found me through word of mouth, so keep talking to people and keep leaflets or business cards in your handbag or coat pocket, and hand them to people - I get enquiries from people who have stuffed my card at the bottom of a shopping bag, then found it months, and in 2 cases, years later!

Chocs? I fancy a luxury holiday myself

Ha ha Jabba sorry but a box of chocs obviously just doesn't cut it:

Homeopathy Safe Medicine: How close are our GPs to the Pharmaceutical drug companies?

Basically we're up against a crazy bribery system regarding GPs & their drug dealers - oh sorry - I meant multi national pharmaceutical corporations.

Try offering a luxury holiday to your local GP instead, you might just get lucky.....

Fortunately there is some hope as the new rules come into play regarding NHS funding & primary care providers.
Tried to find a link for that but cant - (hopefully your professional body will keep you up to date on recent developments) anyway it might just help enable patients to choose complementary stuff over drugs.

Things are going our way, doctors cant keep ignoring us forever because so many of their patients want us & whether or not we bribe them with weekend breaks, luxury holidays or boxes of chocolates sooner or later they'll have to use us.
