I've never treated a client with asthma but this may be about to change. I know all clients are different, but does anyone have any advice on hot spots, techniques, areas to focus on, things to look out for etc?

Thanks!

RE: Asthma

Hi Siobhan

Long time no speak! I really must try and get back into the forum now I'm back from holiday!

I have treated a few clients with asthma, and obviously concentrate on the lung reflexes. Work the lungs in all directions, and also use the lung to spine link (ie. link any congested areas in the lungs across to the spine). I've also found with asthma clients that they don't notice always notice their improvement, so to measure ask them how often they are using their inhaler (after a few treatments). They are often surprised tha tthey are using them less but hadn't realised until I asked! Of course as reflexologists we should never advise someone to use their inhaler less or stop using it, but you know that! 😉

Sarah x

RE: Asthma

i have treated a few, one was quite chronic with her breathing problems... she is actually on a waiting list i beleive for a lung transplant.

she said she thought it was wonderful for asthma as it is so relaxing. as a precaution, make sure they have their inhaler handy but otherwise be confident!

RE: Asthma

I seem to recall that the lungs and the digestive system are linked so you can work that too. Correct me if I am wrong![&:]:D I would work the whole of the spine too for deep relaxation.

RE: Asthma

As well as the lungs I would work : Diaphragm - it's often very tight and this is where breathing starts. all of the thoracic spine. plus the adrenals and the ileo ceacal valve as this controls mucus production which can have an impact on asthma.
