Hi everyone
I have a friend who has just turned 50 and is going through the beginings of the menopause. The problem is she has a very very dry itchy scalp[&:]. I suggested soaking her head with olive oil over night, which she has done and it has given her some relief:).I have also told her to avoid harsh shampoos and conditioners. Her GP gave her some sort of lotion which didn't do much[:'(]. Has anyone got any suggestions on how to treat, what to put on it, and is it related to the menopause[:-]?
Many thanks

Hi HotPepper
I think if you look under the Hair, skin forum there is a trichologist there offering advice, anyway for dry itcy hair try coconut oil, its good for moisturising without being as heavy as olive.

RE: very dry scalp.

I have had severe eczema on my scalp for years which is horrible as it is dry and itchy and I have tried and tested what feels like everything. I have found the only thing that has ever relieved the symptoms which my mum and sister use as they have mild eczema on the scalp is Cocois which you can get in Boots but is cheaper to get by perscription...it is a solution based on coconut oil. Poly Tar shampoo is also very good to wash it off with...however it does stink a little.

I have found that hemp oil, either on its own or with sandalwood or geranium essential oil (1 drop essential oil per 5mls hemp oil) is very soothing and helpful.
