I've been using the 'old' herbal nytol alongside my anti-depressant, mirtazapine, a newer sedating med, as needed when things are tough, but not tough enough to reach for the zopiclone [hypnotic based sleeping med], which can make me super crabby the next day. It's with my doctor's approval, and it works just great. It keeps me calmer during the day, too.

I bought some more yesterday, and see that they're a new version, which not only has a different combo of herbs, but also is not advised with depression/on anti-depressants.

Although I've read that it's mainly with MAOI anti-depressants, and in case of overdose risk, I just wanted to double check with official wisdom from you folks here.
And, if it's best not to take the new version [basically it has valerian, and more hops in it, and no pulsatilla and skullcap], is there anything that's really similar to the old version, that I could take instead?

My diagnosis is longstanding treatment resistant/recurrent depression, and a mix of Complex Trauma stuff from childhood abuse etc, if that helps.

Thanks!

Hi,

Have you discussed with you GP about doing a course of CBT? Many people who have suffered with long term depression have been able to turn their lives around thanks to CBT.

I'm in long term analytic focused psychotherapy which works well for me. 🙂
I was asking about the nytol, not my therapy.

Well I think it's fine that Myarka recommends possible alternatives that may help with your depression, after all this is a dicsussion forum 😉

In terms of your original question, if you are planning on taking any 'off the shelf' medicines alongside prescribed medication it is always best to consult your own GP who knows what you are taking and your own personal case history. It wouldn't really be wise for any person on the internet to say it will be "ok" or "not ok" for you unless they are professionally medically qualified.

If the nytol has changed in formula then it would be best to err on the side of caution and take heed of any advice given in the leaflets that come with it.

All Love and Reiki Hugs
