I've been searching unsuccessfully to find a 190 proof (95% vol) alcohol to make medicinal tinctures. I know in the states they get Everclear, is there an equivalent for us in the U.K? If not what's the next best thing?
I'd really appreciate any info as I've been searching for quite a while

Hi Joe_soap I think you need a licence to buy it as it is pharmaceutical grade alcohol, however I'm not sure how you go about that. Sorry.

I never manage to buy this kind of alcool in Uk but I did it in France.
If you happen to go to France sometimes you may try Pharmacists.
It will help to know one because the legislation on this product is drastic and they may not sell it to you easily.
So if you go to France sometimes or know someone who go there...Worth a try maybe 
Ask for "alcool a 90%" it's not the 95% you are looking for but it's quite close I would say and it could be better than 0%....

I know of nowhere in the UK to get 190 proof alcohol for tinctures - so I asked my daughter in law to get me some on her trip to Poland, which she did. She got a funny look from the shop assistant as she bought it, as if she was a bit of a boozer. I was highly delighted to receive my 95% proof vodka, which is ideal as it has no additives.

I know someone who is going to France in June so I shall ask her to have a look for me 
Do you know the place where exactly she planned to go?
If so it could be better to order it in advance.
So you will be both sure she willl go and find it.
There much much more to enjoy in France than playing tourist in all pharmacies around.
You can Mp me if you want and I can try to find it and order it for you as it might be easyest for me than for both of you.
She is going to the music festival with her band (I was supposed to go too but it there's just too much going on for me)
I actually just found an 75% Vodka online (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post links) so that will have to do I suppose I'll just ask her to have a look if she passes any pharmacies.

Oh no worries she will pass PLENTY pharmacies (all signed with big green cross to help spot them).
There are pharmacie almost to each corner (not far) and always several open by night.
All pharmacie will tell her by day where is the one open by night.
Usually it's adress is also written on the door of all pharmacies.
Finding a pharmacie is not going to be difficult...The hard part is going to be to find one who will sell what you look for.;)
