Can anyone help me? I am now doing case studies for Holistic Massage.
I have just sent home a very happy first case study, who arrived with an impending headache caused by sinus congestion, she left here walking on air, minus the headache(for my next trick I will walk on water). My problem is I don't have a clue how to begin writing up the treatment, does anyone know where I can view some case studies to give me some Ideas? I am getting desperate. PLEEEEEEEEZE

RE: Case studies

when i did massage we didnt do case studies... it was back in the essay writing days. but i guess the format would be similar to reflexology.

ITEC - we had to do 4 treatments on 10 people (not forgetting the 24 one offs!), so do those in the normal way, take consultation, make observations, note effects/ reactions to treatment, home care advice.

when you have done the 4, then start writing up the summary. we used headings: personal history, medical background, presenting problem, 1st treatment (which has sub headings of plan of treatment, home care advice), 2nd treatment, 3rd treatment, 4th treatment all with same sub headings as 1st treatment + a further heading of reactions to previous treatment. then do a conclusion.

it sounds daunting but really isnt. once you have set out one, the rest are easy. dont worry if you feel you are repeating yourself... afterall, thats how it is in reality. as a guide, i used 2 sides of A4 in 12 point! so you dont even have to write reams. they just want to see that you have grasped the concept and know what you're doing.

Rosie has got it covered - I still have my inital ITEC case study forms so I will email one to you so that you can see an example of format.

It is really to show that you have covered the bases and understand how to adapt a treatment.........

RE: Case studies

hi Gladsye ... just a small addition to all others have covered & said - also - not sure about massage as I havent done it !
But also in Reflexology- in our write ups - we had to include the physiological area /areas we were working upon ie Pituitary, lung, heart etc & had to explain why & what effect we were wanting to achieve, give reasons why this would help ailment & also for how long we worked on each the reflex areas. Each week we would then note the differences found in the same reflex, duration of working & difference in skin, the touch etc etc etc

Happy Case Studies & Studying . .

RE: Case studies

Thank's Guys, not only is it good to have the advice, it's also nice to know there are people out there who will take the time to help out. I was scared stiff when I applied for the course, I left school over thirty years ago, with nothing to show for the time I spent there. I never knew learning could be so much fun. I thought I would be the dunce of the class, but I got 10 out of 10 in our anatomy and physiology class test on monday and I'm still buzzin. Thanks again, specially to ROSIE.

RE: Case studies

Hi Jules,

I know you wrote this message ages ago now, about the itec study forms, but I'm looking for exactly the same thing as Gladyse.

I am currently writing up my case studies, I have no idea how to do a treatment plan to put after the consultataion and before the record of the actual treatments done.

Do you still have a copy of the forms you used, it might guide me to know what to put and how to put it..

Many thanks in anticipation,

Star
