I have had some great advice from another of my posts about use of pre blended oils, and how these should be avoided on pregnant clients, with the recommendation being to use a plain base oil, so I could use sweet almond oil, and also have grapeseed oil handy in case of nut allergy.

At college, we applied preblended oils from the bottle, just warming in the palm of our hands before applying to the upper body. When we used the plain oils, this tended to be for hair condition, and we would warm the right amount of oil by placing a beaker of oil in a lrger bowl of hot water, then applied to scalp with cotton wool.

My question is, if I am simply using a plain oil, not for hair condition, but to massage on the upper body, arms, etc., is it best to warm in a bowl of hot water, or does it work well applied straight from the bottle? (I'm imagining the fussing around in a clients home with bowls, kettles, etc.............)

Many thanks!

Hi Sparkie

you only need to warm it in your hands as you apply the oil

there are many lovely base oils out there that you can use without having to be a qualified aromatherapist

coconut is great for hair - I personally hate grapeseed and use organic sunflower oil in case of nut allegy - my friend hates sunflower, she uses it for cooking!!

have a look at companies like aromantics and tree harvest for inspiration

happy testing

Thanks Hemel Girl! Thanks for the tips. I had not thought of sunflower oil as it'snot mentioned in any of the IHM books I've looked at. I thinkI'm going to get some coconut oil. I fancy trying on my own hair too! Do you use it on the back and shoulders too, or just use it for hair condition?

Thanks

Hi Sarah

you can use it on the body - depends wether the client will like it or not as it can be a bit strong for some people

I put it on my hair overnight - wrapped in a towel and a towel on the pillow, then rinse it in the morning - you dont need conditioner afterwards

you can also do it during the day if you dont have to go out anywhere
