Hi everybody,
I hope to qualify in IHM soon, and am already thinking (and worrying) about how on earth to make any money at it.
It seems that getting a corporate client would be a good start - but how does that work?
Does the company pay for the employees to receive treatment, or do they allow you to treat their employees, but the employees pay? Do they give you a room, or do you go to a person's workstation?
What would be a suitable company? Is it better to go for a big corporation with things like 'Human Resources' (perish the thought), or do small and medium sized companies go for this sort of thing?
Actually, come to think of it, do corporate clients exist at all, or is this just a vicious rumour put about to lull us poor students into a false sense of security?
Aaaaaaaagh! Feeling so full of doubts and insecurities. Any pointers would be so much appreciated.
Thanks,
Ditto
RE: Running IHM for corporate clients
Welcome ditto,
I am working (not as a therapist, I have two lives!) in a central government office and there are several therapists who each visit one day a week so there are various modes on offer here. However there are probably more than 1500 staff at this site. I think the way it works here is that the therapist gets a 'retainer' rate from the employer for committing for the day and staff pay extra for the treatment. The therapist keeps any income from treatments, and rates seem to be about 50% of what would be charged 'outside'. On a good day a therapist might treat 6-8 clients, on a very bad day none!
It's usually better if the employer can provide a separate room as you will presumably want to consult for contraindications etc and that should be done in a confidential environment.
Contact companies 'HR' departments & ask if they operate a staff/corporate 'wellness' programme and promote yourself as adding value to that, (staff being valued, effects of stress on business profits, etc)
Good luck

RE: Running IHM for corporate clients
Wow, thanks for that, Derek. That is very useful info.
Anybody got any info on how it could work in a small/medium company?
Cheers,

RE: Running IHM for corporate clients
Hi there Ditto
I do Head Massage in the Office and I work ata mediumorganisation and small company. Both of them pay me a retainer and I stipulate that I need to have a minimum of two hours work (ie 6 "heads") per day as I have to travel and it wouldn't be worth my while to go there for less that 2 hours' work. There are a couple of good threads on this if you scroll down but one that you might find useful is this one:
