I am thinking of doing a IHM course shortly, maybe with gateway or Helen McGuinness.
My question is for the people who have attended these or simaler courses, do you get many males on these courses ? I suppose I am starting to feel a bit awkward about maybe being the only male.
Thanks in advance
Richard.
Hi Richard
I have done IHM and Reflexology, and there was a man in both classes, so don't feel awkward, we had a great laugh x

Hi ya Richard
I can't comment on the course providers you mention.
But often men are in the minority on therapy courses. I've been personally on many courses where I was the "token bloke". You just have to get on with it.
I think even one man on a course can change the dynamic in a workshop and provides a better balance and learning environment. Imagine if you walked in and every person there was male, the same height, weight, body type, teeth, clothing all the same. How boring. By working on many different types is where you get experience.
I went on a 1 day course in May and I was the only man with 18 women. I loved the attention I received.
Since most users of complementary therapies are women, learning to work with women is bread and butter stuff.
After all that, if you feel anxious have a chat with the tutor to make sure equality occurs. IHM as a modality is generally easy going.
Best Wishes

Hi Richard. I've also just started a IHM course and am the only bloke in a group of 13 (thats a coven isn't it?LOL). Enjoy the experience, be prepared to laugh at yourself and you'll get on fine. I was the only guy on the body massage course last year and I really got pampered.
Hi All,
Thankyou for your wise words of encouragement.
I have booked an IHM Gateway course for this week.
Thanks,
Richard.
Well done Richard hope you enjoy the course
There was only 2 of us on my Indian Head massage course and we were both older ladies so could not comment on your question. Although I got into this line of business due to going to a man for IHM and he is brillant.

There were five men on my course, and they were fab to work with. Go for it!
