When I learnt IHM we were taught to start at

left side, hand at throat and crown, Deep breath, envisage light blue and chant Hammm x3,

next pineal/ indig/ omm aound,

then crown/ white or gold/ ommm again.

then repeat for right side, by this time my back is usually very sore.

Does anyone have a bit quicker method?

RE: How do you balance chakra's

Hi Jan,

I don't balance the chakras after IHM, but I do balance chakras when giving healing.

There seems little point just trying to balance the topmost chakras without balancing the lower chakras as well. Also, why both sides? It really doesn't matter which side you stand/sit to balance chakras - once you've balanced a chakra there is no need to do it again unless, by balancing the others, it is put slightly out of balance.

It would appear that you may be overdoing it.

RE: How do you balance chakra's

Hi Jan

When I learnt IHM (VTCT course) we were taught just to lightly touch the crown with hands in trangle position; followed by hands across the forehead; eyes and then throat. We held our hands in each position for about a minute and then slid our hands back over the face, scalp and onto the shoulders where we held the position for another minute and gently slid hands off. Clients seem to enjoy it as it is a grounding before they leave.

Love

Thanks folks that certainly sounds easier, I tried just doing it once on one side and it felt good still, but was afraid I was 'short changing' my client.
I dont always get the client to do the chanting as some would find it disturbing so often do it silently myself, especially as big people like my beloved seems to be able to exhale for about 2 minutes!!.

I'll try your method next time Sue, sounds very logical, (or is that a strange term for something like this :). My course was G.C.P. (guild of complementary practitioners)

Paul, I was also taught that you do the left first and then right as it was significant for blockages? Other way round in reflexology? Do you know why?

RE: How do you balance chakra's

Hi Jan,

I don't balance chakras after Reflexology. I endeavour, as in IHM, to balance the whole person with the chosen therapy and not do any energy work on my client unless I ask them at the end of a treatment if they would like any healing. If they say 'yes', then, as a healer, I would check all of the Chakras for balance.

It does not matter, in my opinion, how you choose to balance the chakras, either one or both sides at a time - I tend to do front and back together - but left and right? if it suits you then carry on doing it your way.

Refelxology treats from the right to the left because, in general terms, that is the direction of the digestion and subsequent elimination processes through the body.

Hi Jan
I would agree with Paul. I feel that you should either balance all 7 of the major chakras, or none at all. Balancing just the top three could leave the client feeling a little light headed. The base chakra - for grounding - should always be balanced. I start at the base and work up to the crown - with my hands either side (front and back) of the client. Hope this helps.

RE: How do you balance chakra's

A chakra balance can be as complex or simple as you wish.

MY concern is that many of the college courses are teaching peopel to balance chakras when they have no idea what a chakra is. whjat it feels like or what they are supposed ot be doing.

Before doing any therapy or chakra work it is esentai lto be grounded - as after all you dont want to be unbalancing yourself whilst balancing out others.

Simple thoughts of sending healing light into someone- even calling it love - can be enough to rebalance the chakras of hte whole body - not just the upper three - as has alreayd been suggested, working on three of them alonew can lead to more imbalance than good, often many poeople can feel nausea and headaches from doing this alone, ssomething often said to be a healing criss after a IHM - iyts not always toxins being relaeased that cause it but the fact that someone has tried to alter the energy field in the head area and left it out of balance with the rest of hte body.

If you arent tootaly sure on chakras and what you are trying to do or the best way to use them - the simplest thing often to do is NOT think about them specificalkly. IN giving an IHM you are already interacting with the client and providing touch and healing - which in itself is probably doing as much good as wafting your hands about chakra posisitions if you are not really sure what it is you are trying to acheive. WE all pass on healing and love with every touch in therapy - whether we intend to or not - so in giving your therapy you will be helping them to become balanced anyway 🙂

I've just had a thought.

Balancing only three chakras might be a remembrance of the Chinese/Japenese technique of bringing the Three Diamonds of Earth Ki, Heaven Ki and Heart Ki into balance.

The areas relating to these three Ki's are the head, the hara and the heart, respectively.

RE: How do you balance chakra's

I know this is an old topic, but just thought I'd add my thoughts.

I personally don't balance the chakras in an IHM treatment. It would make the treatment time too long, and I think clients (bearing in mind they have their eyes closed)often think 'what's happened? Is she still there? Am I meant to get up?' I think that an IHM should help balance the chakras anyway, considering the very nature of the treatment.

I was once a case study for someone doing IHM, and they clearly didn't really see the point of the chakra balancing, because they only did the crown and just spent about 20 seconds there. Because there was no 'connection', it just didn't feel that nice as the reciever.
