Hello and welcome to Healthypages 🙂

Perhaps you'd like to post some of the ideas you've had so far, and then hopefully our members may be able to add some suggestions for you.

Body language

Hi there are a lot of books out there explaining body language and I would expect that your teacher has discussed some of them with you: eye contact, open posture/closed posture, arms crossed, swinging legs to name a few. Think about what you already know as this is something we do every day...we may not get it right all the time but we know what we are looking for when we meet someone for the first time. Do they smile at us, make eye contact, say hello, stand to face us or sit directly facing us, lean towards or away from us. We are reading someone's body language and respond accordingly. This isn't rocket science so relax and tap into your own knowledge source and trust your instinct. Good luck:)

Before starting a treatment it is important to ‘ground’ and ‘protect’ yourself. Everyone has different techniques and have different things that feel right for them. I’ll tell you what I was taught which I find very effective. To ground yourself you have your feet flat on the floor and imagine roots growing out of them down into the ground. These roots are very strong and grow very deep. Say to yourself 3 times “I am grounded”.
Then picture yourself with a cloud, or bubble (or whatever works for you) above your head, make it any colour you wish. Imagine this bubble growing bigger and bigger until it is big enough to surround you. Imagine this bubble coming down around you and protecting you. Say to yourself 3 times “I am protected from all forms of negativity”.
There is a thread already on this subject if you go to General therapies and see ‘I can't dump clients' physical/emotional 'stuff'!’
You will find some extra info that might be useful to you.

Something that was not so much ‘bad’ but ‘interesting’ I guess was when I was in reflexology class and I hadn’t protected myself. I was working on my classmate’s meridians and suddenly felt like I was going to pass out, went deathly white and had to lean against a wall in order to be able to carry on! Then when we swapped my classmate ended up having to run out the room. Don’t know what was going on there, but we’ve both been fine since…and I always do protection from now on!

lizazelgay, may I suggest that you re-visit the Student / Training forum and read these guidelines:

in particular the advice to look at the 'stickies' at the top of that forum, among which you will find sample case studies, for IHM and for other therapies.

If you also review your previous posts in Student / Training and here in IHM - which you can do via your own profile - you will see that many members have responded to your questions with the suggestion to consult your tutor. This seems once again to be the best advice, coupled with the fact that doing your own research is more conducive to learning than being handed answers on a plate - without wishing to sound unkind, of course 🙂
