Having had the opportunity to experience real pain thanks to an op, I decided to try to compare EFT to what the hospital had to offer! (Well, what else are you supposed to do when you're stuck in bed all day!)
In each case I waited til the pain was back to it's fullest (well, as much as I could handle).
Paracetemol (1 used as the benchmark because it's a widely accepted painkiller): pain lessened to a dull throbbing
Diclofenac (hardcore painkiller given to patients post-op): no pain at all; as if I had never had an op
EFT (only using the basic 8 point routine): strange numb feeling, almost like the body expects there to be pain but cannot sense it because the message to the brain is being blocked
Not sure what to make of it... interesting to note, anyway.

Very interesting Darren.
I did some EFT for a sore throat I had the other day (I know it's not quite the same amount of pain), tackling each of the aspects of what if felt like and by the end of it it was as if I didn't have a sore throat, but my body was saying "it's there, but it's not", if you know what I mean. Perhaps I should have tapped on that too.

This kind of pain dissociation sounds very similar to that in Hypnosis. Tests in hypnosis found that the brain functionality (under hypnosis) changed the way we interpreted pain impulses. So those experiencing pain actually felt a different sensation, although the brain knew to transmit the pain impulse it was interpreted differently (and non painfully) by the test subjects.
It was a tv series called Hypnosis on the Discovery channel and was a very interesting documentary.

(replying to both replies...) So it's not just me then.
I think the pain is a useful indicator esp if you're accidentally putting pressure on a part of the body that's trying to heal, but I'd rather it tingled than hurt. Bit like Arnie in Terminator 2 when he was explaining what the bullets in his back felt like.
