Hi, I'm posting this on behalf of a friend, who has got interested in energy work. She is looking for a crystal therapy training course, preferably in Scotland. She has also looked at the Crystal Therapy Practitioner Course with the Open College, and she wondered if a distance learning course is likely to be any good? I see Stonebridge College does the same course at an even lower price. Anyone studdied with them? Who are the main accrediting bodies for Crystal therapy, and what should she be looking out for. All advice greatly recieved. TIA. Joyce

I think if you used the search button to research home study courses you may be put off.
They may well have changed over the years, but I did one with british school of yoga about 8 years ago and it was dismal.

their is a lady called Raye Bower, she lives in Cumbria and teaches crystal therapy. I have trained with her and she is lovely.

think her site is

www.reiki-cumbria.com

but if you google her name, you will find her.

Hi Guruholistic. This is possibly very cheeky of me, but just trying to be helpful. I think your web address in your sign off may be missing an "s". I tried to visit your site, and kept getting an error. When I added an "s" so it was the same as your forum name, it came up with a site which looks as if it might be the right one. Kind regards. Joyce

Hi CharisNLP

One of the main awarding bodies is the Affiliation of Crystal Healing Organisations. My husband and I trained with one of their schools who also offer OCN accrediation (Open College Network).

My personal view is that as with any other complementary therapy the student should have a good level of teacher contact time especially when working with the crystals and be able to get good feedback on technique, client care, what is going on energetically with the person on the couch etc. These things are not available on home study course and are vital if the therapist is to successfully and professionally treat people.

I've done a number of different courses:

School of Natural Sciences Correspondence (awful)
Stonebridge Crystal Practitioner correspondence (also not good)
VTCT Crystal Therapy in college - better as you get practical knowledge and it was a reasonable introduction
ICGT Crystal Therapy Certificate with Touchstones Therapies (Llandrindod Wells) - the best!!

I recommend a course where you can meet like-minded people and get hands-on practice. ACHO is certainly a good place to look for a teacher.

Blessings

Meurig

One point about the VTCT course is that many insurers will not give you insurance to practice if this is your qualification. I know that it is one that FHT(TIS) won't touch. If it is only for personal development then it is less of an issue but if you aim to be a practitioner then it is something to be considered.

well, like any course, do your research!
I would never do a course that I knew I couldn't get insurance for, and its just a quick email or phone call to check that.

I actually teach crystal therapy and crystal tranquility, both are one day courses and both are full accredited through The Guild and come with CPD points.

We would like to clarify something mentioned within this thread with regard to the VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Holistic Crystal Therapy.

"One point about the VTCT course is that many insurers will not give you insurance to practice if this is your qualification. I know that it is one that FHT(TIS) won't touch. If it is only for personal development then it is less of an issue but if you aim to be a practitioner then it is something to be considered."

As a fully qualified Holistic Therapist, tutor, Co Principal of Chrysalis Therapy Training and a VTCT Assessor I would like to point out that insurance is available for this qualification and is indeed accepted by FHT. We have spoken to FHT and this is their response:

"The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Holistic Crystal Therapy is accepted for insurance coverage. We accept all VTCT qualifications for insurance purposes even as stand alone units, meaning that it is accepted even if that is the only qualification the student has obtained. Even non VTCT qualifications for Reiki and Holistic Crystal Therapy are recognised as long as the therapist has other current accreditable qualifications such as VTCT, ITEC, etc in some other therapy such as Swedish Massage, Indian Head, Aromatherapy, etc. The only instance we will not accept the (non-accredited Reiki and Holistic Crystal certificates) is when they are taken as a stand alone courses and the student doesn't have any accredited qualification."

In this case the VTCT. This is what their response is with regard to this issue:

"This VTCT qualification in Holistic Crystal Therapy will provide you with a comprehensive framework of knowledge as a basis for lifelong study. Crystal Therapy is a healing qualification that lacks full scientific validation but it is a subject of some complexity that requires the regularising of data within a framework that is insurable. This qualification therefore provides the knowledge and skills necessary for this particular healing modality to be applied and isthe primary building block for a potential lifetime of study."

We totally agree with this statement and as fully qualifed Crystal Therapist I would say that whatever course in Crystal Therapy you take you will always be learning, I know I am!

FHT and Crystal cover?

Hi,
I had one of my students who had to leave FHT after 13 years with them, as they would not cover a crystal course she wanted to do. Not sure if it was VTCT.
Seems such a shame.

Tara 🙂

Re. FHT & Crystal Therapy cover

Hi Tara

It is a shame but I can assure you it was not the VTCT as we have clarified this with both VTCT, FHT and our insurance company. All of our former VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Holistic Crystal Therapy students as well as Cindy and myself have insurance and FHT membership.

It maybe that the crystal course your student wanted to do was not accredited and she doesn't already hold a recognised qualification such as VTCT or ITEC.

This is why regulation of our industry is so very important and we welcome it.

Hope you are well

Thanks

Joanne
