Hi everyone:)

I just started a course on crystal healing and needed to buy a pendulum. i bought one which looks like smokey quartz with another kind of stone running through it (the woman in the shop didn't know what it was). I felt really drawn to it but i have heard somewhere that you need a 'pure' crystal for dowsing, preferably clear quartz.

I was a bit worried that it wouldn't work because of this and because i'd never tried dowsing before. i tested it out on my boyfriend to see what happened when it was placed over his main chakra points. I was amazed at how the crystal reacted because all of the chakras were fine until his solar plexus where it started spinning madly in wide circles. This is the one chakra with him that i do a lot of work on with Reiki as it seems too 'open'.

Just thought i would share my experience because i was so shocked at how accurate the pendulum was and wondered if anyone else had had a similar experience?

RE: crystal pendulums

Personally, I wouldn't listen to anyone telling you that it must be a "pure clear crystal" to be a working pendulum, as it's likely to be the person selling them who's telling you that and you know they won't be the cheapest! 😉

In reality, and from experience, any crystal will suffice, if you resonate with it personally and it feels right for you. It's when you don't believe it's a good crystal to work with that you'll find it doesn't work.

RE: crystal pendulums

Hi Giles

Thanks for your reply. I agree that as long as you're drawn to the crystal, it must be right for you. The woman actually pointed it out and as soon as she did, i knew it was the right one for me and i obviously know it works now, after my little experiment!

I think it will be an excellent tool to use with Reiki too, as another way of working out areas that have too much or too little energy.

RE: crystal pendulums

Yes, I sometimes do Chakra dowsing (depending on the client) before and after a Reiki treatment. Usually before a treatment the chakras tend to be all over the place and then afterwards they're usually all spinning nicely in alternating directions just like they should be. 😉

RE: crystal pendulums

I agree that whichever crystal you are drawn to is the correct one for you at that time. Good that you tested it on your boyfriend - I personally test it on my own.

After I am sure of my yes and no I would ask questions like:
Is my name......
Are you the right crystal for me
Can you help me with dowsing (or healing or whatever you intend to use it for)
I test my own chakras with it - where possible I hold the pendulum over a chakra - if this is not possible (or uncomfortable, or I think I am creating the movement because of the way I am holding it) I ask the pendulum about the chakra and still get a response. I am always amazed at the different rates at which the pendulum moves over different areas of the body and chakras.
Twoof my sisters recently lost or misplace something and by asking, is it in the house, in which room (like, is it in the kitchen etc. etc) they found the objects.

I love my crystals and use them for all sorts of things. Enjoy your course and remember your intuition is worth a lot more than what other people say and nothing that you read is cast in stone.

RE: crystal pendulums

Thank you Jobelle (nice avatar by the way!;))

I am really looking forward to finding many uses for the pendulum. I'm lucky as i have a lot of people around me who are willing to be guinea pigs!

I can't wait to start asking it questions and will probably find that i'll be usingit on a daily basis! It's such a pretty crystal as well as it's sort of a pinky colour and just 'grabbed' me.

What crystal is your pendulum made from?

RE: crystal pendulums

You can dowse with anything! My old healing teacher would use her glasses, she had them hanging on a metal necklace. You should have seen these glasses whizzing round.

Trust your instincts.

RE: crystal pendulums

How funny!
i'd never thought about using anything else but i suppose as long as you trust it, it will work for you. I'm fascinated by the subject and as i've just started learning, i will probably be in this forum a lot asking loads of questions!

RE: crystal pendulums

One point to note. Yes you can use anything to dowse with, but be aware of what chain, cord or string you attach it to. You want one that doesn't extend or twist when it has the weight on the end of it. String is usually a bad idea, whilst chains tend to be better.

Thanks for that tip, Energylz 🙂

hee i like that pun Jobelle 😀 nice one 😀

Can I ask a question about this? If one can use anything to dowse with, could I try using one of my tumblestones or chip bracelets? and if so, how would i go about attaching them to the piece of chain?

grateful for any tips!

wibble xx

RE: crystal pendulums

Hi Wibble Puppy
How are you getting on with the dowsing? To answer your question about tumblestones...you can buy little metal cages from new age shops that you can put a stone in. Or you could simply buy one of the necklaces with a stone already in and just swap the stones over. They tend to be quite cheap too. Otherwise you could try maybe looking on websites for jewelry making, they sometimes sell them i think.
Hope that helps.

RE: crystal pendulums

thanks chloedharma! i guess i could use a little spiral cage, though there is something about putting a crystal into a cage which i find quite counter-intuitive - just my bonkers sense of reality i expect 😀

i've been dowsing using my opal ring, strung on the end of a chain my mate gave me. It seems to work quite well! 🙂

thanks again for your reply 🙂

RE: crystal pendulums

as a child in the 1950s I remember the old women of the village dowsing with their wedding rings placed on a piece of string....... holding it over a pregnant woman's 'bump' ... to tell the sex of an unborn baby.

dowsing has been around for a long time (long before 'my' women in the village) ............ and you can dowse with almost anything
