Using 5 element theory (emotions and other factors such as sex, alcohol/toxins, exercise, wind, heat, dampness etc) to diagnose a disease/disorder, which one is the most common cause of disease in your area.

Im thinking sex, such as STDs, or alcohol with binge drinking.

Iv to to an essay on it and i want to hear your opinions.

Cheers.

Hi Fossa,

I am not sure what you mean by your question...plus sex, alcohol and exercise are not part of the wuxing theory...you could explain them using the 5 phases...and if you are a Chinese medicine practitioner you wouldn't diagnose using terms such as STD's or binge drinking but for example Damp-Heat in the lower jiao...im only a student practitioner but most of my patients seem to have an imbalance in the Earth phase...

Not sure this helps...

Hi,
unless there is a specific change in a local area i.e disease outbreak, extreme weather or lifestyle trends, there won't be a noticable pattern.
Patterns follow the seasons. where people have been in the sun, drinking, changes in diet through the summer you will see a trend in spleen patterns, plus the economic worry of late will effect spleen/stomach too (earth)
I am just seeing alot of shoulder and arm injuries, respitory weakness and damp patterns emerging due to the changes in season again.(lung/large intestine)
Also the weather has turned very quickly this year so ther are signs of qi deficiency due to extreme cold, again because the spleen has been weak.

If you are using 5 phases you have to look at the mother and child when treating....in extremes the controling cycles......everything in relation.
