Hello there, my name is Neil i am 32 years old.My problem is regarding tennis elbow. You see i injured my elbow doing heavy weight training around 4 years ago. I know a very long time ago. I havent been able to train since that fatefull day i got injured. Things just arnt the same anymore as my life revolved around training. It made me happy. I am currently going through depression as i have lost the will to keep in shape via using methods other then weight training. I know that might sound odd, but its the truth guys. I am at the point where i really do need to see if anything can be done. I have tried pyhsio, but it had no effect. I dont believe in steroid injections or coritisone injections. So i am willing to see "another way" of curing this problem i have. You see not long ago i started oil pulling which is a natural way of healing one self. I have had amazing results. It made me think there are natural or different ways of healing the body. The only thing stopping me from going to see an accuppunture specialist are certain people i know. They say its not going to work or you might feel better for a week, month but then the problem will come back. So they have put me in two minds about this. Please i would really like "advice" from people who are more in the know. I will trust your judgement and make my descion accordingly Thank you in advance n god bless.

Hello Neil and a warm welcome to Healthypages.

Sorry to hear about your problem with tennis elbow. My OH had this condition a few years back now but he is fine. The treatment he found worked was a combination of acupunture and deep tissue massage.

Deep tissue massage is a type of massage in which pressure is applied to the deep layers of muscles, tendons, connective tissue and fascia.
Generally, this is performed by a trained therapist using pressure from the fingertips.
Specifically the therapist uses the fingertips to apply deep pressure in a slow stroking technique. The therapist may also use forearm, elbow or other pressure on specific tissues.

We have had a few threads on the forums about tennis elbow which you can find using the 'search' facility in the header at the top of the page.

I hope this helps and do let us know how you get on.

Best wishes

Im glad your OH recovered from this irratating condition. He is very lucky. Moonfairy do you know if its possible to find and accupunturist who does massage. Are there any out there. Or would i need to find two seperate places for each treatment. Also are we allowed to say places and names regarding whos good or not so good. You see i would love some reccomendations. Once again thank you for your reply.

Hi again Neil

Yes, I am very well and thanks for asking. OH is too - fully recovered. I am not sure if you would find a therapist who could do both for you, but if not, then I suggest massage as your first port of call. OH was actually taught how to do this for himself by a friend, but I recommend you make your own enquiries with a qualified therapist. You might find a sports therapist in your area who could help you. Healthypages also has a directory of therapists which you may find useful.

Best wishes

Hi Neil,

Tennis elbow is something which a good practitioner would be able to help with - and the effects should last for a while - although you may need top up treatments in order to keep the pain at bay. It all depends on how you respond to it, along with what your full pattern diagnosis is, and any underlying problems.

However, you should have a look at the British Acupuncture Council website, find a practitioner local to you, then give them a call to discuss your requirements. Most will be happy to help. ALWAYS use a BAcC registered practitioner!!

As for the massage, I know that we trained in acupressure massage, so that we can apply that with the acupuncture, along with other skills such as moxibustion, cupping, Gua Sha and auricular acupuncture, in order to provide the best service possible for each individual.

Also, many practitioners are qualified in other modalities, such as reflexology, massage etc - ask them, and you may be surprised!!

Good luck in your quest - and let us know how you get on 🙂

I recommend looking for a Tui Na (Chinese massage) practitioner. Most are also acupuncturists. I have used the combination of the 2 together for tennis elbow, and it is extremely effective.

You could start your search at the register of tui na chinese massage:

Hello Neil,

I have personally treated Tennis Elbow successfully with a combination of acupuncture and remedial massage. It does take a little while to respond as the tissue has become fibrous, but respond it does. A good therapist will also give you advice on how to rest & strengthen the muscles that support the arm & shoulder.
Incidentally I am a member of ATCM, an organisation for TCM practitioners (acupuncture and herbs and TuiNa) and as fully recognised as BACC.

If you would prefer massage without needles , then I would recommend looking at the directory of the ISRM for highly qualified sports & remedial massage therapists in your area.
Please seek help. It can be resolved.

Hi there

You may also want to investigate the Emmett technique and / or the Bowen Technique, which I have used to treat a number of people with tennis elbow [and golfer's elbow too!].

if you have a look at the websites below you will find explainations of both therapies and also a list of who might be closest to where you live.

Best wishes for your recovery
