Im after a little help/advice please!
I do a lot of weight training, and for the past 18 months have had a little problem with my left leg dominating when i perform a squat exercise.
I have seen a physio a couple of times who uses a form of acupuncture directly into the muscle and he said my pelvis is out of line thus in effect giving me one leg ever so slightly shorter than the other.
The left seems to be shorter and hence why it often feels like the left leg is doing all the work - and hence, also has slightly more muscle mass.
Now the treatments i have had previously have involved the physio sticking pins into my lower back muscles so that they clench onto the pin and slowly relax. This is also done just above my glute to the right side and some in my left calf also as this seems to also be developing more.
Anyway, long story short, its not really worked and im still getting the dominant leg thing while lifting.
A good friend of mine swears by traditional chinese acupuncture and i wondered if i should perhaps be looking down this route?
any advice is appreciated!
I don't think that TCM acupuncture would provide a miracle cure for you even it addressed energy imbalances. As a physiotherapist and acupuncturist I would say that you perhaps need to go down the pathway of modifying your exercise technique. I don't really know which specific speciality you are looking for here - perhaps a sports therapist - someone who will assess your position/technique as you exercise and be able to adapt your technique.
I hope that you find this helpful.
 Mind and Body,
I have been having Accupuncture from my phisio following a car accident i was in 12 months ago, it doesnt have any affect on me,
if you have had accupuncture and it hasnt done much i cant see how chinese accupuncture will have an affect either, as the needles are placed on trigger points on the body, if you have a hip thats not lined up correctly you need to see, a specialist about that.
take care
left-handed?
Most people have a dominant side. Usually if you are right handed, your right arm will be stronger, and often your right leg as well. Other way round for lefties. Suggest you do extra leg raises/leg curls on the right leg to balance it up.
most people also have a slight difference in arm/leg length.
Hi mindandbody.
TUI NA Therapy all the way! 🙂
It is the best available therapy for sports injury, combine it with Acupuncture and you'll be sweet.
Sounds like you need some serious stretching:p
