The Indian spiritual master, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar (founder of the 'Art of Living' foundation)has created a technique called the 'Eternity Process' , a meditation technique through which one is able to remember the memories of one's past lives stored in the subconscious mind. Many of my friends and others have gone through this technique , and in the process , have realised the memories of their previous births.
The Indian religions believe in the theory of karma or 'cause and effect'. This theory finds ample expression in the fact that those who have gone through the 'Eternity Process ' found that their inborn ,innate talents can be traced back to training in a previous birth.
This technique is getting increasingly popular, and according to Sri Sri Ravi Shankar , it is now being practiced in a few psychiatric clinics as well.
In order to do this technique , one ought to contact the nearest 'Art of Living ' centre and get in touch with an 'Art of Living ' teacher trained in this technique. One ought to be 21 years of age to do this technique.
All my friends , who have done this technique, found it to be very interesting and illuminating. I wish you the same.

RE: Remembering your past lives

i have to wonder to myself though, if the remembrance of past lives would necessarily be a good thing.

I think that like anything, there are dual aspects to remembering one's past lives. I can see where it might be very beneficial if someone's past life is haunting them and in order to exorcise these "demons" - they need to be able to face the source of a given event, an source which might in fact trace back to a past life. Once they face this source - they can release the power or hold it has over them.

That having been said, there are many advantages to not remembering our past lives. Some have equated our forgetfulness of past lives as an actual grace or mercy from God. Think about all of the issues and negativity we might be inspired to carry over from past relationships, think of how that would change the world around us as we see it. What if we ourselves committed truly despicable acts in a past life - would we then seek to punish ourselvesin this life.

Let's say you're on a forum board and you've developed a disliking for another remember. At some point you go to another forum board on another web site. A few weeks or months later, you see the other person has joined up. Because of your feelings towards that person, you might continue any bias you maybe had against them. However, if that same person joined under a totally different name - you would have no idea of their identify and how they related to you in the past, and you might develop a greater appreciation and respect for that person and even maybe develop a friendship - an opporunity you would never perhaps have been afforded had continued animosities been carried over.

I say all of the above, but admittedly, i'm very fascinated by peering into my past lives. If i knew of a method to do exactly that - i'm not sure that i would have the self-discipline not to try. But until such a time, I do feel that although there may be many good reasons and merits for discovering aspects of a past life - it's also not ground that should be treaded lightly, merely out of the sake of satisfying a curiosity.

A very interesting Freudian slip, nishira, and one which may say a lot in the light of the rest of your post! 😉
