Pope Francis has taken aim at capitalism as "a new tyranny" and is urging world leaders to step up their efforts against poverty and inequality, saying "thou shall not kill" the economy. Francis calls on rich people to share their wealth.
The existing financial system that fuels the unequal distribution of wealth and violence must be changed, the Pope warned.

"How can it be that it is not a news item when an elderly homeless person dies of exposure, but it is news when the stock market loses two points?" Pope Francis asked an audience at the Vatican.

Is this a new start for the Roman Catholic Church?? I hope the pope means this and isn't idol words.

Hmm, yes - words are easy. Will Francis lead by example I wonder? The Vatican must have a glut of wealth that is more ornate than essential methinks!

The vatican knows all about poverty; it has many priceless works of art depicting it.

All good points.

I sincerely hope that this pope better than the previous ones and do some good. But I shall not hold my breathe. All the twists and turns of such a large institution isn't going to change that readily.

Exactly RP. Good intentions are one thing but when you are within the constricting, oppressive hold of the powers that be....how much say/sway can you have?

Remember Obama with his intention to close Guantanamo Bay? I believed him to be sincere but he perhaps had little inkling of just how much of a puppet he was to be. 🙁

More from Pope Francis:

Pope Francis Condemns Racism And Declares That "All Religions are True" at Historic Third Vatican Council.

The traditionalists must be choking on the communal wine 😀

Sorry RP, but this is a hoax. 😮

If you had read the disclaimer on the website, you would have seen this:

The original content on this blog is largely satirical.

“I ceased in the year 1764 to believe that one can convince one’s opponents with arguments printed in books. It is not to do that, therefore, that I have taken up my pen, but merely so as to annoy them, and to bestow strength and courage on those on our own side, and to make it known to the others that they have not convinced us.” – Georg Christoph Lichtenberg.

It is in the spirit of the above quote that I write. Who am I you may ask? My name is Erik Thorson. I created this blog for my own personal amusement.

I thought it all sounded too good to be true, went to the Catholic websites, but there was no mention of a Third Vatican Council. Let's face it too, if he actually had said words like:

"The Bible is a beautiful holy book, but like all great and ancient works, some passages are outdated. Some even call for intolerance or judgement. The time has come to see these verses as later interpolations, contrary to the message of love and truth, which otherwise radiates through scripture. In accordance with our new understanding, we will begin to ordain women as cardinals, bishops and priests. In the future, it is my hope that we will have a woman pope one day. Let no door be closed to women that is open to men!”

it would have been plastered all over every newspaper and be headlines on the news, but yours was the first mention I'd heard.

Absolutely correct Amy, and I too am so grateful for the compassion, forward thinking and progress that seems to be coming through Pope Francis.

However, RP's link to the blog about the 3rd Vatican Council is a hoax. Obviously she didn't realise that when she posted, but HP surely is a place that we should uphold the qualities of honestly and integrity as I'm sure you agree. Rolling eyes not needed.

Well, firstly RP is a he and secondly the rolling eyes was a kind of "don't hold your breath" stance re. the world leaders acting on Pope Francis' plea.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!

I have been fooled by wishful thinking. And thinking about it, it would of been plastered across the media.

But the thing is, it would be a very popular and would bring RC'ism into the modern era. Talking of which I was watching the TV earlier this evening and there was a article on the RC allowing Mayan languages to be used in church in Mexico.

Such is life

Yes the Pixie is a he not a she, even though in this instant acted as a dumb blonde lol 😀

My apologies - I think of pixies as cute little things - therefore female, though in all probabilities, they are androgynous! 😮

Yep, it would have been quite something had it been true! :p

No, piskys/piskeys/pixies can be male or female, as can faeries and elves, and there's mermaids/mermen, but trolls (especially on HP) has the tendency of being male, lol :p

Feminisation may be more due to artist licence.

As well as pixies in the PRC, we also have Knockers as well 😉

"If I win the lottery, I will buy every copy of You Can Heal Your Life by Louise Hays, stick them in a big pile and burn them!!" RP

Now I realise that this is totally :offtopic: RP, but I'm puzzled by your signature.
It sounds a bit drastic - violent even! 😮
Would you care to explain what you have against Louise Hay or her book?

It came about in a conversation with a student once who was fed up with people continually bleating about such things like found in Hays' famous book. And to be honest I was as well bored with fellow therapists at the time basing their judgements on that and similar books. I have colleagues that totally agree with me and if on here on Hp would support me. Why? because they can see the humour in this statement and the repercussions on following any text biblically and literally 😉 It's tongue-in-cheek, simple as that!! I don't feel I have to be saintly any case and most of my signatures have been tongue-in-cheek. I'll change it when I get bored of it. Do you think I would really waste my time and money on buying up this or any other book and burning them?? Of course I wouldn't!!

I'll tell ee what I would do if I won a large sum of money, I would buy bits of land and plant trees on they for future generations. Then create a foundation to protect the land and the trees before I popped my clogs 🙂

If I may comment on Hayes book here (although it is off topic but derailed by RP himself! :p ).

Whilst I wouldn't diss her whole book (it has been empowering to many), there are some blatantly misleading and worrying generalisations. The one that sticks out is that all illnesses are caused by negative thinking, i.e. can be cured by positive thinking... 😮
Like, hallo, viruses, food poisoning, genetic dispositions etc.???

Also to add that many a book that promotes creative visualisation and positive thinking don't take into account that not everyone is of that nature. Also I have met many people who use these ideas to musk "in a dream world fantasy" problems that need positive action. There is a difference between wishful thinking and positive action.

If someone who resonates with Louise Hay's ideas or anyone else's, excellent 🙂 But please don't turn it into religious politics: "You can't get well, that's your fault and your bad karma you dirty filthy sinner!!"

Yes I agree RP. Whilst I have a positive thinking mindset (now hardwired into me for some 30 odd years), I do not gloss over issues that need addressing i.e. that require temporary postponement of positivity in order to explore, understand and learn from/heal a situation. (I have encountered those that do 'gloss over' though - probably the same people who regard themselves as perfect; when a problem arises I visualise them as placing their fingers in their ears and singing "tra la la")

The woman is a dangerous nutter.

The central tenet of 'You Can Heal Your Life' is that those who are sick have themselves to blame for it, and if they are unable to cure themselves, it is because of their psychological shortcomings.

Yes, burn it.

Admittedly Hayes takes it too far but so many illnesses do start out psychosomatically, i.e. with emotional/mental precedences. Effectively, a negative mindset lowers our immunity hence making us more susceptible to illnesses. It's not really rocket science to see this link is it?

I am a good example of this since I am rarely ill and have a positive mindset. This is not to say I don't have negative thoughts/emotions but I quickly restore equilibrium, i.e. do not let them "take" too much/let them have a noticeable impact on my body. (All the more surprising since my current life - of 2 years now - is highly stressful, being a full time carer, for my frail elderly mother).

This is an unfortunate aspect of the Newage scene. This attitude has come up again and again in dealing with such people. I came to the conclusion that many in the newage scene at crypto-fascists and doesn't reflect their external "love and light" type sayings and signatures. If you believe in the healing power of angelic beings, you are a good little boy or girl. And if you don't, you are a sinner, or rather it's your bad tough luck karma and you will learn! Is this really any different from Catholicism?

Well no movement is without its flaws/drawbacks. Overall, I see the new age movement as comprehensive and essentially progressively spiritualised in its endeavours. There are so many strands that encompass this umbrella terminology, e.g. meditation, visualisations, positive thinking etc. As with many things, the few extremists can spoil it for the whole - tarnishing its reputation. Let's keep this in proportion.
