Also known as All Hallows Day, starts the evening before on Halloween and is a festival of the dead.It is a celebration of all the known Saints and Martyrs of the Catholic Church.
Originally it was celebrated on May 13th but was changed to todays date in the eighth century to coincide with the Pagan festival of Samhain.

this is a time of intercession for all dead souls that are still not purified and ascended to heaven...Family members and relatives send prayers for their loved-ones in the hope of helping them......this is a time of Mumming ( acting out stories )........A time for bonfires....and the decoration of graves

Fortune-telling games were associated with this celebration

Hi Oakapple,
Its a special time to light a candle in remembrance for someone passed on.
When I lived on a travellers site it was one of the biggest celebrations of the year and my ex-boyfriend always said its Celtic new year.

Hi Anna......Yep, he was right....It's the Celtic New Year, a very special time of year. When we can seek the wisdom deep inside ourselves........The beginning of Winter and the dark period, the increasing cold makes going home from work that much nicer......the changing weather makes us aware just how delicate Nature can be.

I can understand the Christian faith acknowledging halloween as special...

Living on a site is very special....getting back to the basics, I lived on sites as well........also had my own bender in the woods....long time ago, back in the distant past.....hehe

Hi Oakapple,
Yes i find im very inward looking this time of year and all water sun times of year.
Its so good living 'out' I do miss it.Im so glad I know how to live that way now.It has made nature live in my heart even stronger.
My daughters father has Romani blood and I would like her to know how to live out.
What did you do to celebrate Samhain?

We....( crabapple and myself ) had arranged to go with our usual group to a Yew forest, where most of our Sabbats are held...but unfortunatly, crabbie was ill....poor luv....so we held a ritual at home,.... just the two of us.

I'm attending a Spiritual Bushcraft Weekend at the end of November...camping out, and connecting with Mother Nature...looking forward to that.
