Is there anyone else out there who is a buddhist with the NKT?
RE: Are you a Kadampa?
Hi Vajralight,
I'm not, but, as I've mentioned on a couple of other threads, I've recently been attending a meditation workshop that has been run by someone from the Tara Buddhist Centre nr. Derby. I know they are NKT Buddhists, and I've found it very enlightening listening to their beliefs in relation to their "Stop Worrying, Start Living" workshop. Most enjoyable.
I'm not sure we have many Buddhists on the forum, but I'm sure we'll now find out as you've asked the question. 😀

RE: Are you a Kadampa?
I didn't really imagine there would be that many buddhists here.....but you never know. There's me for a start!
I've been to Tara Centre twice before for their annual UK Dharma Celebration which is a small buddhist festival. Its such a beautiful magical place!
RE: Are you a Kadampa?
The lady doing the workshop actually lives at the Tara centre, although she does say that occassionaly she has to geta job if she needs some more money to feed herself.
Would be interesting to hear how you got into Buddhism and how it's changed things for you.

RE: Are you a Kadampa?
Hiya Vajralight, When I started to look for meditation groups in my area I attended " Dropin Classes " that were run by Buddhists from the New Kadampa Tradition in Portsmouth where I live. The teachers had immense sincerity, and calm. The " Dharma " was in depth and always positive.
Although Buddhism was not my chosen path, I always felt very welcomed......I attended classes at their meditation centre in Southampton, and am thinking very seriously of attending a ten day silent retreat in Cumbria, in the near future.....I never joined any serious study groups, but their meditation sessions were amazing. they introdused me into meditation, and will always be thankful for their patience and step by step intoduction into a happier way of looking at life.
The Buddhist way of life; Peace, Loving Kindness and Wisdom are so relevent in todays busy, non-stop world . Whatever path each person chooses to walk, we should all spend a little time in meditation .

RE: Are you a Kadampa?
Hi Vajralight,
I'm not a Kadampa myself, but as you might have guessed whilst perusing this forum, I am somewhat of a "dabbler!" I've recently felt a real need to immerse myself in the Buddhist teachings and have really connected to it. I'm not sure whether I'll ever want to call myself a buddhist because I try to avoid labelling myself and tie myself down to one philosophy, when there are merits in many of the world's religions and faiths. If I did decide to identify 'solely'with the Buddhist path then I don't think I would narrow my choices down any further and pursue a particular School...I think you get the most out of a teaching when you look at it holistically and examine all the different Schools of thought, especially since there are so many discrepancies within translations and interpretations of Buddhism.
RE: Are you a Kadampa?
NamasteVajralight,
I have read a few NKT books (I still am) and go to local classes and Duldzin centre in Liverpool as often as I can (which isn't very). I have been to Vajravarahi centre, Preston a couple of times and to Losang Dragpa near Hebden Bridge once, but still not to the spring or summer festivals, which I aim to do next year, finances/karma permitting.
I try to study Dharma and meditate every day, which I usually do. And i try, yes, try to practice Dharma purely and be mindful.
I have had an interest in spiritual paths for 15 years or so, and read into and 'followed' some to see if they were for me. But ultimately, my path has led/returned toBuddhism and, personally, I findtruth in Dharma.

RE: Are you a Kadampa?
Hi Vajralight
Im not a Kadampa, but I have taken the Bodhisattva Vow under the Mahayana Tibetan Buddhist Kagyu tradition.
I realise this also suggests I have taken refuge, but I do not consider myself buddhist. I wanted to take the Vow and for it to be 'official', and you cannot do that unless you fulfil certain criteria, so I did. I consider myself more Buddhast - that is, more like what Buddha believed than any 'follower'.
Buddhism has become a religion - Buddha wasnt religious!

Just for information... New Kadampa Tradition is also based on Mahayana Buddhism.

Hello. Yes, I've been interested in NKT for about 3 years. I go to a local class once a week, but wouldn't call myself a Kadampa Buddhist (or any other!). I'm not keen on labels 🙂
Hello!
Yes I am a Kadampa Bhuddist! I attend the Duldzin Centre in Liverpool and have my own shrine at home, I don't do formal meditation as much as I should do to benefit my practice, but I take the teachings with me in to everyday life, so I guess I am a practical meditator!
It is good to meet you all, by the way!
