Coran and I were discussing today the possibilility of us moving. Since have both now chucked in our jobs, and the house appears to be our main asset, selling it and moving somewhere cheaper may be the best, indeed only way to free up some capital.
It occured to me then to start a thread on here, in which others say a little bit about where they live, transport, house prices, etc, giving what they see are the good and bad points about living there. This will help us to start thinking about what possibilities there are. I will get the ball rolling then by telling you about where we live.
We live in a small town called New Malden, which forms part of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames, in south west London. The borough also includes the towns of Tolworth, Surbiton and Chessington.
The average house price here is expensive - around £276,000, and pollo tax for a band D property £1328. It has a higher than average income, and lower than average unemployment rate. The house prices would prabably be the main disadvantage, together with the high cost of living, due to its proximity to London.
On the plus side, the area has excellent transport links, 30 minutes by train to London Waterloo, plus easy access to both the M3 and M25, and very close proximity to both London airports - Heathrow and Gatwick. Kingston also has one of the best shopping centres in the south east, with a wonderful vegetarian restaurant. There are also many green spaces, such as Richmond Park, Hampton Court etc.
It is also a fairly spiritual community, with many healing centres, and a spiritualist church, plus one non demonimational in nearby Epsom and Ewell.
The main advantage though that I would say is its close proximity to London, but equal proximity to beautiful countryside.

RE: Tell me about your town/area
I need to open my eyes more. Where is this vegetarian restaurant in Kingston?
RE: Tell me about your town/area
It is called the Riverside Vegetaria Darren, just off the High Street (past the apple market, heading towards Surbiton). Walk along the tow path from the other direction and you will see the signs outside. They do yummy food - wheat free as well.

I live in Spain, Alicante. The weather is nearly always hot the beach is 400 yards from my front door, the train station is a 7 min drive from my house, the wine food and beer is so cheap and I live on a limited income far better than I did in the UK. I can afford to go out to eat twice a week all the bills ie phone, water, electric, and housing tax are so cheap as well. I work part time doing massage on the sea front for all the tourists.[8D]
I am so glad that I made the move here there is less stress and the pace of life is so much slower. Just what I need 😀
