Hi there,

Was wondering if anybody could please share some advice about courses abroad?

I'm heading off to Thailand and India (via Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam and maybe Nepal) next Easter to backpack, soak up the cultures and also continue on my path of learning as much as possible about complementary therapies.

I am starting to look into colleges/universities that offer Thai massage/ Ayur vedic courses, and also meditation retreats (non-touristy) but would love to hear from anyone who could give me some advice about any particularly good courses within the holistic sphere.

Thanks so much for any help you can give!

Sunsetbutterfly 🙂

I worked with a therapist some years ago who had studied ayurvedic 'medicine' in India - she was in the country for 4 years. She did all sorts of other courses and worked in a school at the same time and loved every minute. I hope you have a great time too.

Hi ya SSBF

There is lots of training in traditional massage available in Thailand. The best place to go is the city of Chiang Mai in the north.

I did my Thai training orginally in this country and then went to Thailand for post-grad study.

My advice about any training in Thailand or elsewhere is that it might not be insurable in the UK without a recognised qualification in Anatomy & Physiology.

Best Wishes

P.S. If you are just interested in Thai Massage for fun, the best short course to do is the Lek Chaiya Nerve Touch School in Chiang Mai.

I did my ayurveda massage course at the ANHC - Ayurveda National Health Centre, Saligoa, Goa.

Excellent reputation, accredited by the Goa Government and lovely Ayurvedic Doctors/teachers. Dr Sunita is the Head Ayurvedic doctor.

Thank you all so much for your advice- really appreciate it!

I'm an ITEC qualified holistic massage therapist with A&P and ideally looking for a professional qualification that will be transferable and allow me to practice back over here in the UK. Aware that there are plenty of UK-based schools that would fit the bill, but travelling and learning is such a passion- and I feel I'll get a really authentic training.

I'll check out the Goa and Chiang Mai possibilities for sure- they sound ideal.

Very exciting planning my adventures! 🙂

Saligoa centre

Sam,

Thanks for your message Sam. I am just about to book at the Saligoa centre. As it has all been arranged on the internet I was looking for reassurance that it is not a scam. You have given me that.

Thankyou I can now concentrate on my plans

Thanks again

Sorry to be back so soon, but I have just found a very unfavourable review on www. travelblog.com.

I am not sure how seriously to take it, it goes on a bit, but it does raise concernd because of the payments upfront. I thought I should let you know
