I'm planning a holiday with a friend for next year. We both decided on Canada and we found a 21 day tour of Canada/Alaska. Its 2 weeks in Canada and then a 1 weekcruise through Alaska. We also want to spend an extra week in Canada to visit Quebec, Prince Edward Island and Niagara Falls. We are also considering 3-4 days in Hawaii on the way home (we live in Australia). Both of us know a few peope that have been to Canada and they all said they had a fantastic time. We can't decide on 5 or 6 weeks away. Both of us work full time and we have just started saving. I know its early days yet but wewant to start planning everything now and maybe even book some things soon. We are going to a travel expo in a few weeks.Has anyone else been to Canada or Alaska??

RE: Holiday in Canada/Alaska

Hi MC,

Have fun at the travel expo. A great idea is to get as many brochure's of Canada/Alaska as possible which would give you a better idea of possibleplaces you'd like to visit and the backpacking/coach holiday brochures would also give you an idea of where they go, how long it takes, how long they stay at places and where they stay.

For travelling between places there's Via Rail (train) or Greyhound (bus) where they've got several different types of ticket options (from singles to flexible travel passes), if you're visiting the Canadian Rockies, a good way to get around is sightseeing coach companies. Brewsters has several 1-way trip options, which saves you from "backtracking" over yourself.

I absolutely loved my first trip to Canada. I flew into Vancouver, used Greyhound to/from Vancouver Island then, travelled on the Canadian Train (ViaRail) from Vancouver to Jasper, spent a week around the Canadian Rockies and then caught the train from Edmonton to Toronto. Spent some time there and also did a trip toOttawa, Montreal, Quebec City and Niagara Falls which are all worth seeing. If you have a spare couple hours, it would be worth seeing Niagara-on-the-Lake, a lot prettier than the town by Niagara Falls.

Hope this helps.
Kathy
