Hello all,

I did a course with VTCT last year, and received a certificate from the IIHHT, but I can't really find any info on them, let alone a logo I can use on my brochures/business cards etc.

Does anyone know if there is a website for them?

RE: Who are the IIHHT?

IIHHT is one of the qualifications awarded by VTCT. (like edexcel give GCSE qualifications) it stands for International Institute of Health and Holistic Therapies. There should be more information about it on the VTCT web site. You can use the logo on the top of the certificate and you can also get a badge with this logo on from VTCT.

HI TC

IIHHT stands for International Institute for Health and Holistic Therapies and is under the umbrella of the Federation of Holistic Therapists. If you look at their website : you will find more details about them.

Hope that helps

Sue

RE: Who are the IIHHT?

Thanks for the info,

I realised what the initials stood for, but there doesnt appear to be anything behind the name.

Who are they, what are their goals, what do they stand for, do they have any listings for their members, etc, etc. It just appears to be a convenient name for something that sounds important.

I checked on the Fed of Hol Therapists website, and found that they only seem to represent the following;-

IFHB
-
International Federation of Health & Beauty Therapists

ICHT
-
International Council of Holistic Therapists

PACT
-
Professional Association of Clinical Therapists

HFST
-
International Council of Health, Fitness & Sports Therapists

ATL
-
Association of Therapy Lecturers

HBEF
-
Health & Beauty Employers Federation

Any help would be appreciated.

thanks

RE: Who are the IIHHT?

I agree, it is so confusing. I did my training with VTCT who have given me a certificate with IIHHT (the awarding body?) on. They seem to have some connection with FHT (Federation of Holistic Therapists) and when you insure with them you can also become a Member or Fellow of the ICHT (International Council of Holstic Therapies) or one of the other professional bodies.

I think therefore you need to look at the VTCT website. Not quite sure what it is, but if you do a search on it, you will find it.

Just resurrecting this old thread because I am confused too.

I have VTCT qualification and have searched their site and can find NOTHING about IIHHT.

hi there,
as I understand it, the IIHHT is a remnant of the old days when VTCT was VAI, and it was a section within the awarding body offering specialisms. There was IIHHT for the comp therapies, IIST for sports therapies and IHBC for beauty therapies. I thought they had done away with this now, but maybe they have kept it under VTCT.

So if you have, for example a dip in aromatherapy, it would be VTCT (IIHHT). I think, if I remember rightly, you used to use the IIHHT as the letters after your name (though if the therapist doesnt know what they mean, then joe public sure wont).

FHT are a separate entity from VTCT and are a Professional Association. Within the PA they have different councils, with their own Vice President, looking after their specialisms. HFST would be for sports therapy, ICHT for comp therapies etc.

It does all seem a bit confusing, and I know FHT are looking at ways to simplify their councils, but not sure if VTCT are doing the same (I thought they had already dropped theirs).

Hope this helps.

Why not give VTCT a call, and ask them 🙂 They are nice people who work there, nothing too much trouble.

I used to use IIHHT after my name, but I don't bother anymore, I tried looking in my old files to see what the initials were for and why we could use them as so, but seems I have thrown the handbook away.

Good luck

Thank you Jojo. I'll do that. 🙂

You would think though that they'd enclose some literature about it with the badge wouldn't you? Or even put some details on the website. Seems crazy to me to award something to a person and then the person having to find out for themselves what it is.

I realise that this is an old thread but I will tell you what I know.

Mr Wallace Sharp started the Society of Beauticians in 1962, which eventually became the Society of Health and Beauty Therapists and then the Federation of Holistic Therapists in 1970.

In 1975 they gave Mr Sharps the responsibility for a new qualification section under the banner of the International Health and Beauty Council (IHBC). I know that in 1983 the International Institute of Sports Therapies (IIST) was born, and the International Institute of Health and Holistic Therapies (IIHHT) was also formed around this time when aromatherapy and reflexology therapies started to become popular and needed to have recognised qualifications.

In 1986 the Vocational Training Charitable Trust (VTCT) was formed which amalgamated all of this qualifications under one larger Awarding Body, but the qualifications still displayed the original IHBC, IIST and IIHHT logos to confirm what the qualifications were, as it takes industry, employers, etc., time to get to know a new overarching organisational name, and they can often be hesitant to employ, provide membership or insure if they feel there is any doubt in a qualification being legitimate.

This move allowed them to expand and include hairdressing, barbering, customer service, sports and fitness, spa therapies, travel and tourism, retail and, learning and development, plus they continue to expand, late in 2016 by acquiring Digital Assess (software designers) and EMS who trade as ITEC.

There is very little information about IIHHT on the web and even in older new letters and magazines from VTCT there is only a slight sprinkling of information. So, I hope that helps to clarify this a little!
